On Tuesday, November 20, the House of Blues in Chicago will host a benefit featuring an OUTSTANDING line up of REAL BLUES performers. This ALL AGES event is an ideal opportunity to introduce the real deal Blues to your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and neighbors.

Proceeds from this event are for Amberly Stokes' son, Jameson. Amberly has worked at Chicago's legendary Rosa's Lounge for several years, and is a tireless advocate of the music and the musicians. Jameson suffered severe injuries after being struck by a car in August. He faces a long road to recovery, several more surgeries, including a bone graft, and mounting medical bills.

This is going to be a special night. Check out the confirmed performers (a few surprises are scheduled as well) and please consider buying a ticket or two or...

Stirring up the pot...

Will this venture help preserve and promote a blues legacy where it began, on the city's South and West sides, where so little is being done to create educational and economic opportunities?

As we prepare to celebrate the life of dear Marie Dixon whose generosity of spirit touched so many of us, I am sharing pictures of her receiving the Blues and the Spirit Award in 2012 from the President of Dominican University, Donna Carroll, assisted by Sugar Blue. Marie charmed everyone that special evening with that lovely smile and her natural warmth. Thanks and photo credit to Jennifer Noble for capturing this moment.

More sad news from Chicago. Prolific songwriter, producer and manager Bob Jones has passed away. So many artists in the Chicago blues scene and the Southern soul circuit have benefitted from collaborative efforts with him---including Artie"Blues Boy" White, Willie Clayton, Cicero Blake, Little Milton and James Carr, to name just a few. Such a loss to the blues world. This photo is from last January's Blues and the Spirit program where Bob took part in a panel discussion on the state of the blues.
