Congratulations to the recipient of BOTH 2019 LIFGA Scholarships, Cassandra Castano. Cassandra is an undergraduate student at Farmingdale State College studying horticulture. She is currently on a study abroad internship at the Center for Interaction Design in Edinburgh Napier University in Scotland and hopes to become a Landscape Architect some day.

Join us for our full day of Gardening Workshops at Suffolk County’s annual Spring Gardening School on Saturday, April 13, 2019. Organized by Master Gardener Volunteers for the last 37 years, this beloved event kicks off the growing season for hundreds of gardeners who gather together for a day of learning and fun.
This year’s Spring Gardening School will be held at the Riverhead Middle School in Riverhead, NY. All classes are taught by Master Gardener Volunteers, Cornell Cooperative Extension Educators and local experts.

Dr. Cari Peters will be our speaker on February 20, at 6 pm, at the LIFGA Winter Dinner Meeting at the North Fork Brewing Co., 24 East 2nd St. In Riverhead. Cari Peters Raymond is Vice President at her family’s company, J.R. Peters Inc. She is the 3rd generation of Peters, following both her Father and Grandfather, who introduced the original Peters fertilizers over 72 years ago. At J.R. Peters, Cari is the master-crafter working with the Jack’s Blue Crew to bring new fertilizer formulas to the horticultural industry. She also manages the J.R. Peters Laboratory & provides tech support to growers using the lab or Jack’s products.

Cari grew up with blue hands, helping with fertilizer design and mixing, and then went on to get a PhD in plant nutrition and horticulture. Cari speaks at many industry events and writes numerous articles for the trade magazines.
