Looking back on our CHASS grads can be so emotional this time of year. 🥹 Congratulations to Alexandra Silva (She/Her), Sociology! Alex🩷🌸

Hobbies:
My favorite activity/hobby is reading.

Who inspires you?:
The person that inspires me the most is myself, more specifically my younger self. I think back at all the things I wanted to be when I grow up and I think my younger self would be proud of who she became.

Clubs/Orgs:
I was a part of the pre-law fraternity Phi Alpha Delta (PHI ALPHA DELTA @ UCR), as well as the Chicano Student Program (Chicano Student Programs @ UCR).

Self-Discovery:
I discovered how much I loved reading again. During my time at UCR I was able to pick up a book and read whether it be outside at the HUB or at the Botanic Gardens. It made me realize how much I missed reading whenever time permitted.

Advice:
Don’t be afraid to ask for help! As someone who is very independent and hates to ask for help, it won’t ruin your world and it won’t make you any less independent.

Post-Grad Plans:
Post graduation I’m gonna study for the LSAT and go to law school.

Hey Highlanders! 🐻💙💛 School is just around the corner… and we’re SO excited to see everyone again!!!🎓✨🫏

Before you head back to campus here are a few tips to start the year off right:
📚 Check your class schedule + locations
☀️ Give yourself extra time to get around campus (especially those first few days! campus can be bigger than you think)
🅿️ Plan your parking or transportation ahead of time(it gets a little busy!)
💧 Stay hydrated. Riverside heat is no joke!
📱 Check your UCR email and Canvas for updates
🧭 Don’t be afraid to ask for directions :) we’ve all been there!

“I am excited to announce that this past summer, I spent nine weeks working as a Program & Residential Assistant for Columbia University's Pre-College Summer Program. Through their Internship in Building Community, I was able to work first-hand with students from around the world and help them develop personally and professionally.

Moving across the country for this program was daunting, but I'm glad I pushed myself to pursue this amazing opportunity with the help of College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (CHASS) and the UCR Alumni Chapter in New York. This program helped me develop essential skills that will help me as I pursue a career in education, such as crisis management, organizational skills, public speaking, and more. I am grateful for the people I had the pleasure of working with, as well as the students I was able to connect with through workshops, excursions, in-building programs, and much more.

Thank you again to Columbia University for this amazing opportunity I was able to be a part of."
