This summer, Benjamin Peterson, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major entering his final semester at California Baptist University continued his independent research and presented at Summer 2026 with Rosetta Commons Biotech Research Company.
After benchmarking his program against leading methods in the field, Benjamin found his approach to be the most accurate. With plans to continue the project toward publication and openly release the code, his research is already reaching beyond the classroom.
Benjamin credits Dr. Jones Tsai’s and Dr. Patrick Schacht’s courses, giving him the foundation to pursue his research, along with the mentorship they provided throughout the process.
At College of Arts and Sciences at CBU (CAS), we are proud to see Benjamin turn a classroom question into meaningful research on symmetrical proteins, exploring how computational models can predict their stability when mutations are introduced. We look forward to seeing where this work takes him next!

The American Physician Scientists Association (APSA), is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing resources for aspiring physician-scientist trainees. Physician-scientists are important to the future of medical advancement and working to improve the way medicine is practiced in all different fields, and APSA is a great resource for students interested in academic medicine and applying to MD/DO, MD/PhD, or DO/PhD programs.
