The Eaton Collection at UC Riverside is the world's largest publicly-accessible collection of science fiction, fantasy, horror and utopian literature.

The Eaton Collection of Science Fiction & Fantasy is (arguably) the largest publicly-accessible collection of science fiction, fantasy, horror and utopian literature in the world. It is housed at the UC Riverside Library's Special Collections & University Archives in the Tomás Rivera Library.

New acquisition: a stunning work of contemporary Cyberpunk, Thad Higa’s ‘Ensh*ttification’ is a book about “pop-up advertisements, the fracturing of media and reality, the attention economy, surveillance, paywall capitalism, brain rotting and fear mongering, tech oligarch AI garbage marketing, and the impact of all of this on our conception of freedom and reality.”

Researching for our current exhibit on Cyberpunk graphic novels and comics, our archivist (and exhibit curator) was inspired by these comic art pages for The Hacker Files, published by DC comics, in the Lew Shiner collection (MS 226). These pages are from the first issue (Aug 1992). This was one of several comic series for which Lew Shiner was the writer and/or co-creator. Pencils by co-creator Tom Sutton and inks by Mark Buckingham. Shiner’s collection has almost two boxes of material from various comics projects, including: correspondence, memos, sketches, storyboards, scripts, etc.

New acquisition: ‘The Art and Making of Frankenstein: Artifact Edition’ (2025). This gorgeous, limited mini-archive includes ‘The Art and Making of Frankenstein’ (2025, Netflix), a bookplate signed and numbered by Guillermo Del Toro, a prop-replica portfolio reproducing 21 sketches features in the film, custom art prints, a facsimile reproduction of Victor Frankenstein’s notebook - and a statue of the Dark Angel from the film.

A new exhibit has landed at UCR Library! 
To celebrate the centenary of Amazing Stories—the magazine that helped define science fiction as we know it today—Klein Librarian Phoenix Alexander curated a pop-up exhibit on the first floor of the Rivera Library that showcases nine landmark issues in the magazine’s history. The exhibit will be up until 04/26, and will be available to view online later in the year.
