You just received an email from her, the woman, the myth, the legend.... our first staff spotlight is KATHY RUCKER!!!🌟✨💫 Enjoy some snippets about Kathy! #myhollins
Thoughts on rumors that you don’t exist?
“I think it’s amusing since I’ve been here for several years, but I guess we are sort of hidden on the third floor of the Cocke building. I don’t have a chance, especially now, to meet students as much as I used to before COVID.”
What do you like to eat for breakfast?
“I’m not a big breakfast eater. I usually eat a couple of cheddar cheese sticks and some fruit—that’s my go to breakfast.”
What’s your favorite thing about your job/ working at Hollins?
“Working at Hollins, the seasons. I love all the changes in seasons—it’s just such a beautiful place to work and be and interact. I get to meet new people all the time because of the students, and the people that work here—it just makes it a great place too. A lot of nice people.”
What’s the weirdest thing you did as a child?
“When I was like four, maybe five, my neighbors were playing softball, and I had flip flops on and started playing softball with them thinking I could do it. And the girl stepped on my flip flop and I broke my leg in two places so I had a cast all the way up my leg and ended up going to pre-kindergarten, since I couldn’t walk on crutches, in a wheelchair, so that’s kind of weird.”
What was cool when you were younger but not now?
“I grew up on a farm, so we had cows that we milked. We had our own milk, we had chickens, we had eggs. Now I go to the grocery store.”
What’s your favorite memory from college?
“Well, I worked full time while I went to college, so I didn’t get to enjoy as many activities as other folks because I worked my way through college. But, just the satisfaction of accomplishing that. Working my way and feeling satisfied that I could pass and do well.”

Please apply only if you are a Hollins student with limited income or extenuating circumstances. All responses will be kept completely CONFIDENTIAL.
For students traveling to areas where internet may not be easily accessed, contact VP Alison Ridley for all questions/concerns/accommodations!!
IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM INTERIM PRESIDENT GRAY:
Dear Hollins community,
Over the past couple of weeks, faculty, staff, and administrators have been carefully considering the most effective ways to protect our campus from the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. Today, out of an abundance of caution, I am announcing the following measures to help safeguard the Hollins community:
· Residence halls will close on Friday, March 20, for Spring Recess; students are asked not to return to campus after the break.
· Undergraduate classes will transition to online delivery and other alternative modes of instruction beginning Monday, March 30, the first day of scheduled classes after Spring Recess.
· Remote instruction and residence hall closures will be in effect for two weeks through the week concluding April 10. At that time, the university will reassess whether in-person instruction can resume, or if we will need to continue classes online through the rest of Spring Term.
· The university itself will remain open, and faculty and staff should continue to come into their offices and adhere to their regular work schedules.
· Non-essential, university-related travel to professional conferences or other large gatherings is suspended.
(For more information check student emails!)
