Nazareth University mourns the loss of Dr. David A. Anderson, an esteemed educator, historian, storyteller, artist, social justice activist, and longtime Scholar in Residence at Nazareth, whose life enriched our campus and that of the Rochester community for seven decades.

In 2009, Dr. Anderson was appointed a Scholar in Residence in the College of Arts and Sciences and School of Education and served for many years, encouraging students and colleagues to critically seek truth and understanding in the enduring power of history. He worked with students and faculty on a variety of projects across the curriculum, and his work enlivened classrooms, conferences, community outreach, and public history projects with the Rochester City School District. He retired from this position in 2022, and in honor of his efforts, the Nazareth Center for Public History was renamed the David Anderson Center for Public History, located in the Golisano Academic Center.

He possessed the rare ability to connect people across generations, encouraging those he met to see themselves as part of the common struggle for justice, freedom, and human dignity. His life stands as a testament to the power of education, the importance of historical memory, and our shared responsibility to build a more just society. His voice, his life, and his wisdom will continue to inspire the Nazareth community and those whose lives he touched.

All are welcome to attend A Celebration of Life service on Thursday, August 20, at 10:00 a.m. in Linehan Chapel. Our deepest condolences go out to Dr. Anderson’s family, especially his wife Ruth, daughter Joanine, and sons David and Kenwood.

This spring we were able to celebrate the life prep graduation of one of Casa Italiana’s student workers. Ashton Fantauzzo worked with Casa Italiana for a year and always came to work with a smile and a joke to make you laugh. While we will miss Ashton, we are all so excited about this new step in his life and we wish him well in all future endeavors!

Barilla, the most famous pasta manufacturer in Italy but also the largest pasta company in the world, is expanding its manufacturing operations in the Town of Avon through a two-phase project that will bring a $145 million investment and more than 90 new jobs to Livingston County.

Barilla is investing $145 million to expand its Avon manufacturing facility, creating over 90 new jobs and boosting production capacity.
