The School of Music, Theatre and Dance at Oakland University invites applications for an experienced Lecturer in Theatre specializing in screen acting. The successful candidate will teach foundational and advanced courses in screen performance, specifically Acting for the Camera I and Acting for the Camera II for the newly created BFA in Acting for Stage and Screen.
Additionally, this role offers exciting opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, potentially including team-taught projects with the Film Program. We are seeking an instructor who is student focused, connected to industry professionals and standards, and who can help bridge the gap between theatrical training and on-camera performance.
Requirements include:
Degree: An MFA in Acting, Theatre, or Film Production with an acting emphasis; OR a Bachelor’s degree with substantial, verifiable professional industry experience.
Teaching Experience: Demonstrated experience teaching acting at the university level or within a recognized professional training studio.
Technical Knowledge: An understanding of the technical aspects of screen acting
Preferred requirements include:
Active membership in industry unions (SAG-AFTRA, AEA).
A strong professional portfolio in film, television, commercials, or new media.
Experience collaborating with directors, cinematographers, and film crew in an educational or professional setting.
Candidates must demonstrate experience with or a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
