Since the inception of RIT's Information Technology degree in 1992, technology has expanded to impact every part of our lives, with rapidly expanding amounts of information transferred at ever-increasing speeds. Today, the iSchool graduates are poised on the bleeding edge of that expansion, and instead of merely thriving in this new age, they drive it. How can they leverage IT to solve real-world,

human-centered problems? How can they deliver more information to more people in more ways? Their interests are as varied as the technology: cloud computing, virtualization, Big Data, NoSQL, geospatial technologies, and many more. Name an emerging technology and our graduates are involved in it.

3 B.S. programs are designed with emerging technologies in mind, giving students the foundational skills needed to succeed in a constantly involving industry. School of Information graduates are discovering new ways to connect information, technology, and people every day.

The Center for Accessibility Inclusion and Research (CAIR) lab is hosting an Open House on Wednesday, September 2, in GOL-1620 from 3-4pm.

CAIR faculty and students conduct research in accessibility and human-computer interaction, focused on making technologies accessible to people with disabilities and those who are deaf and hard of hearing.

If you are interested in accessibility research, join CAIR next Wednesday for this Open House event.

Reminder: the College of Computing is having two ceremonies this year. iSchool students will be walking during the second ceremony in the Gordon Field House on Saturday, May 9th. Please arrive for line-up at 11:30am. The ceremony starts at 12:30pm.

Congratulations to Swetha Srinivasan, our graduate department delegate! 🥳

Swetha Srinivasan is graduating this spring with an MS in information technology and analytics. She was first inspired to come to RIT after participating in a research study with School of Information professor Nirmala Shenoy while in her third year of undergrad at India’s Kumaraguru College of Technology. Upon arriving to RIT, Swetha began attending College Activities Board events, using them as opportunities to connect with Rochester’s culture and community. Her data engineering internship at Foundry further strengthened these local ties, as she also volunteered with the Rochester City School District during her tenure there. Additionally, she served as a student engagement assistant for International Student Services at RIT, where she welcomed over 600 international students to campus. Since completing her requirements in December, Swetha has started working at Nazareth University as a data analyst. The RIT Community inspired her to work in higher education and contribute to the education of students.

Please join us in congratulating iSchool lecturer, Dean Ganskop, on being selected as a recipient of the 2025-2026 Provost’s Innovative Teaching Award! This award recognizes a full-time RIT faculty member who teaches in effective and innovative ways that improve the student educational experience. He will receive the award during the Celebration of Teaching and Scholarship 2026 dinner and ceremony on April 8th.

Temperatures are going to be below freezing throughout the weekend and most of next week. If you don't have warm enough clothes for your walk to class and finals, stop by Bern's Closet. They offer RIT students much-needed clothing items, generously donated by RIT staff, faculty, and Greater Rochester community members, with the goal for students to leave with a professional looking outfit or seasonal clothing—at no cost to them. Students can visit Bern's Closet Monday through Thursday from 1 p.m. - 7 p.m., and Saturdays between 12 p.m. - 5 p.m.

And reminder that the college-wide holiday party is Monday, December 8th, from 1:30pm - 3:30pm throughout the first floor of Golisano.

Then Tuesday, the college is holding it's next snack and study session from 5:00pm - 7:30pm in GOL-1710-1730 (CYBER).
