University of Rochester alumni are helping bring the universe into focus through their work on NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope. 🔭

Dozens of URochester alumni at NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration, L3Harris Technologies, and other organizations have helped design, build, and test the groundbreaking telescope—from its optics and systems to the technology that will help scientists explore dark matter, dark energy, and worlds beyond our solar system.

“It’s the best telescope that NASA has ever created in terms of performance,” says Rebecca Borrelli ’12 (PhD), the chief technologist for space superiority and imaging at L3Harris Technologies. “It’s going to take beautiful images.”

Together, their work builds on a remarkable URochester legacy in space exploration that stretches from Hubble to the James Webb Space Telescope—and now, Roman.

Meet the alumni helping shape our view of the universe and discover the URochester connections behind NASA’s newest flagship mission about to take launch. 🚀⭐

This , we're proud to spotlight two alumni donors who are sharing why they give to the University of Rochester.

Eugene Nichols III ’20 serves on the Black Alumni Network's philanthropy committee. For him, supporting the University is rooted in the opportunities, connections, and experiences that URochester made possible.

"My experience as a student and graduate of the University of Rochester inspires my continued advocacy for this institution. From the Douglass Leadership House to the Office of Mentoring and Student Advocacy, and the Xi Epsilon Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Rochester gave me community, lifelong friendships, and experiences that shaped my character, strengthened my purpose, and broadened my perspective."

For Ashley Campbell ’09, ’10W (MS), her philanthropy is driven by an understanding of the lasting impact that donors have on URochester students and their futures. She previously served as a global co-chair for the Black Alumni Network.

"College gave me the space to hone my civic voice. It did not matter the organizations I served; the environment gave me the insight to grow, learn, and understand the power of impact. I give because I know the power of impact sows seeds that last a lifetime."

By giving back, Eugene and Ashley are helping expand opportunities for future students and ensuring others can benefit from the same transformative community, mentorship, and growth that shaped their own URochester journeys.
