October is Arts, Culture and Humanities month!
🎬 Some legacies are built one frame at a time.
For more than four decades, Distinguished Professor Emerita Andrea Eis helped shape the arts at Oakland University — developing courses, mentoring generations of students and helping build programs that continue to thrive today.
Andrea joined OU in 1983 and went on to help develop majors in studio art, graphic design and film. She created the university’s first filmmaking course and played an instrumental role in the growth of Film Studies and Production — a program she once described as one of her proudest accomplishments at OU.
Her influence has extended far beyond the classroom. A filmmaker, photographer and artist, Andrea has exhibited and screened work across the United States and internationally, while also serving OU through decades of faculty leadership and mentorship. In 2022, the Board of Trustees appointed her to the rank of Distinguished Professor, recognizing her exceptional contributions in teaching, scholarship and service.
Now, Andrea and her husband, Steven Rost, are ensuring that the story continues.
Together, they have established the first endowed scholarship specifically supporting Film majors at Oakland University — creating lasting resources for students pursuing the field Andrea helped cultivate from its earliest days.
From helping build the program to investing in the students who will carry it forward, Andrea’s relationship with OU is a powerful example of what lifelong commitment to a university can look like.
💐 This October, we’re giving Andrea her flowers — for the students she inspired, the programs she helped build and the legacy she and her husband are now ensuring will endure for generations to come! Thank you, Andrea!
