Did you know the federal government actively recruits students and alumni with disabilities for paid internships and jobs?

The Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) makes it easy to put your resume in front of federal hiring managers.

- Who is eligible? Current undergraduate/graduate students & recent grads (April 2024–present) who are U.S. citizens eligible for Schedule A.

- Deadline: October 4, 2026

- How to start: Register at WRP.gov or email Pamela Christopher ([email protected])!

John Macko and Miranda Harms recently traveled to Denver, Colorado, to attend the NACE 2026 Annual Conference & Expo.

It was an incredibly eventful few days packed with sessions on the future of careers, recruiting, and student success. Beyond the learning opportunities, John and Miranda had a fantastic time connecting, building new partnerships, and networking with professionals from across the country!

Meet Max Gonzaga, a Mechatronics Engineering Technology major who recently completed a successful New Product Introduction co-op at GE Aerospace. In this role, Max was able to apply his specialized skills to real-world projects, gaining invaluable hands-on experience and advancing his technical expertise in the aerospace industry.

Max's experience at GE Aerospace highlights the importance of accessible and inclusive workplaces. As Max notes, working alongside deaf and hard-of-hearing professionals is seamless and effective when proper accommodations are established. By promoting an equitable environment, employers ensure that top-tier talent can reach their full potential.

Some of our NCCC staff are traveling this summer!

Miranda Harms and John Macko had a great meeting and a tour yesterday with David Accordino at Primus Aerospace in Lakewood, CO. We discussed a successful RIT/NTID co-op experience and future opportunities to work together.

NCCC is very excited about the possibilities ahead.

Last Thursday, a group of 13 engineering students (AAS and BS) traveled to General Dynamics Bath Iron Works in Maine for a behind-the-scenes tour. Led by Dr. Merrill, DJ Monahan, Trisha Gard-Thompson, Kit Kenyon, and Miranda Harms, this visit was all about connecting Deaf and hard-of-hearing students with impactful career opportunities in the Navy.

The day included an informative session with the Trade Training Program Manager and current deaf and hard-of-hearing employees. Students gained firsthand insight into the industry, and how deaf and hard-of-hearing employees navigate employment at General Dynamics Bath Iron Works.

A huge thank you to RIT/NTID alumnus Matthew Callahan for his instrumental role in making this experience possible for the next generation of engineers!

Meet Martin Lopez, a Mechanical Engineering Technology major who recently completed a successful co-op at Ludlow Manufacturing. In this role, Martin was able to apply his classroom knowledge to real-world projects, gaining invaluable experience and developing essential skills in his field.

Martin's experience at Ludlow Manufacturing highlights the importance of accessible and inclusive workplaces. Regina and Sophie are in Washington, DC connecting with employers and exploring new partnership opportunities!

During their visit, they stopped by in Hyattsville, MD, where they met with owner Mark Burke to learn more about his business and workforce needs. Conversations like these help us better understand how we can support employers while creating meaningful opportunities for our students.

We’re excited to continue building relationships with businesses in the DC area!
