STATEMENT ON UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER RESPONSE TO GUN VIOLENCE IN THE UNITED STATES

March 21st, 2018

“Gun violence has taken a toll on our nation for far too long. Over the past few weeks there has been a spike in gun violence; from mass shootings in our schools, shootings in our local communities, and even gun violence in our homes. It is time for our leaders to start thinking about common sense gun reform laws. We as a nation cannot continue to live with sorrow and no course of action. The constant excuses for inaction is far overdue. Its more than politics, it’s personal. Together we share in grief. Once said before, united we stand, divided we fall. As a nation it’s time to stand.

I am calling students, faculty, and staff at the University of Rochester to stand up to your local leaders and demand for gun reform. I am calling to action, a day to honor those love ones, families, and friends that may have a personal connection to gun violence. On Monday, March 26, 2018 I am asking that UofR community wear ORANGE. Orange represents national against gun violence day. In lieu of wearing orange, I am asking everyone to rally at the steps of Rush Rhee Library at 3:20pm for a moment of silence, and Orange Against Gun Violence Picture”

Sincerely,

Jamal Holtz, 2020

UPDATE: I am currently working on a project to make safe ride more efficient. I need your input by taking this 1min very very short survey.

This is a survey to get student input on making safe ride more efficient. The data from this survey would be used to show student feedback on Safe Ride.

Check out this campus times article about a bill I introduced (and passed) to create a Minority Student Affairs Liaison Position in SA Presidential Cabinet. Great working with Pres. Jordan Smith & VP Becca Mooney on this bill.

The position differs from the typical executive director position in that the individual in the role will not head a committee.
