Happy Pride Month from all of us at Naz 💜🌈

While this time of year brings Pride to the forefront, Nazareth continues to stand with its LGBTQIA+ colleagues, students, and neighbors year round. The Nazareth Atlas Center provides a welcoming, safe space for the Naz LGBTQIA+ community and their allies on campus.

Join Nazareth University at the Rochester Pride Parade and Festival on Saturday, July 18, 2026! This will be the fourth year Nazareth is officially marching in the parade as an institution and the third year being a sponsor of Rochester Pride.

We are excited to share that Naz Residential Life will be providing housing for Rochester Pride. Students, alumni, and friends are welcome to stay on campus. You can also join us on campus for other events like tie-dying, flower crown making, and more from July 12-17, 2026.

Nathan DeJoy '26 majored in music business while at Nazareth! We asked him about his Naz experience and what's next 🎓

1. How have your Naz experiences shaped who you are today?
"Before Naz, I didn’t know I wanted to be involved with the music business. I first planned to pursue physical therapy, because I’ve always been math and science oriented, but ultimately decided against it. I discussed multiple options with my Open Path advisor and he pointed out that at every session, I mentioned at least minoring in music, and one day suggested I lean into it."

2. Who has had the greatest impact on you?
"Professor Kristen Shiner McGuire, the percussion coordinator. She is just the kindest woman. She is extremely supportive and wants to see all of her students grow and succeed. She does everything she can to support her students."

3. What's next?
"Before graduation, I was offered a full-time job at Live Sound Inc., an audio production company based in Troy, New York, where I interned last summer."

Today, Nazareth University and the entire nation celebrate Juneteenth. Nazareth University is closed today so that we can collectively commemorate this moment of freedom and strength, and continue the work necessary to make meaningful change.

The University is a proud sponsor of Rochester’s Juneteenth celebration, which is coordinated by the Greater Rochester Martin Luther King Jr. Commission and Rochester Area Community Foundation. We encourage you to participate in the wide array of Juneteenth activities that are a part of this wonderful regional celebration. Congratulations to Laura Zehr '26, who graduates with degrees in French and Inclusive Adolescence Education and heads straight into the classroom as a high school French teacher in the West Irondequoit Central School District!

Laura's college journey included a full year studying abroad in France, immersed in the language and culture and forming a bond with a host family so close she still considers her host mom a second mom. Back on campus, she lived in the French House, grew from a self-described shy student into a confident, empathetic educator, and completed a student teaching experience that affirmed her unique strengths in the classroom.

Her advice to future students? Ask questions, embrace discomfort, and lean on the people around you. Bonne chance, Laura! 🎓🇫🇷

Naz students bring Spanish fluency, nursing and social work skills, music therapy and a lot of heart to Rochester Hope's food pantry and other support services. More than 20 students are at the Rochester not-for-profit program weekly through internships, public health and global health classes, and Nazareth’s Partners for Service program. What they take away: a deeper understanding of community, and often a clearer sense of where they're headed.
