Check out one of our co-op highlights, Katherine Collier, a management information systems and business administration major!

Katherine shared, “I completed an internship with Eli Lilly as a Tech@Lilly Intern on the Next Gen MES team under Manufacturing & Quality. I obtained my internship through the 2024 Grace Hopper Celebration, where Women in Business and Women in Computing at RIT sponsored students to attend. At the conference, I had the chance to meet and interview with Eli Lilly recruiters, which ultimately led to receiving an offer.

“Over the summer, I worked on a data analytics team to design and develop a full-stack application hosted on Azure Web Apps. The project was both technically challenging and incredibly rewarding. It gave me the chance to apply technologies I had learned at RIT while also building new skills through hands-on development.

“What I valued most about this experience was being able to contribute to a real-world project that had an impact, while also being surrounded by talented mentors and peers who encouraged me to grow. This internship gave me the chance to strengthen my technical skills while also learning how to align technology solutions with business needs.”

Jason shared, “I worked at Nestlé Health Sciences over the summer as a research intern and found the position through LinkedIn. I was able to work on a novel tablet form that they are developing and finished the initial steps needed for it.

“During my internship, I learned a lot about tableting, tablet characterization, Design of Experiments, and overall concept development. As a result, I have gained knowledge and skills that will be useful as I complete my master’s in materials science.

“The best part of the internship was the number and variety of experts I was exposed to. It broadened my perspective on what cross-functional teamwork could entail, especially in an extensive company like Nestlé Health Sciences.”

Check out one of our co-op highlights, Jenna Trifaro, a mechanical engineering technology major!

Jenna shared, “Over the spring and summer, I had the opportunity to work as a Manufacturing Engineer Intern at Belden, a global leader in broadband solutions. As my first co-op, it was a whirlwind of hands-on projects, new challenges, and major growth in technical and professional skills.

“One of my favorite projects involved reworking a machine used to cut brass bushings for adapter connectors. It had been out of commission, and I was able to rework and improve the machine to get it running again.

“This co-op gave me the opportunity to gain technical skills and connections that will help me grow my career as a mechanical engineer. My favorite part was being able to collaborate with a very talented team of manufacturing engineers to rework and design new manufacturing processes in automation and fiber termination. I’m excited to return to RIT and apply everything I’ve learned as I work toward completing my bachelor’s degree.”

Laura shared, “I landed my internship at Google through networking with RIT alumni and participating in the BOLD Immersion Program, which allowed me to connect with current Googlers, learn more about the position, and sharpen my interview skills.

“As an Associate Product Marketing Manager Intern, I led a research project focused on improving internal marketing technology and workflow. I conducted user interviews, identified key pain points and successes, and developed strategic tooling and workflow recommendations.

“This co-op has helped me grow into an AI-forward professional. I’ve learned to constantly look for optimization opportunities in my daily workflows and improved my ability to prioritize and manage time in a fast-paced environment.”

Check out one of our co-op highlights, Avilene Masner, a microelectronic engineering major!

Avilene shared, “I obtained my position by reaching out to a bridge maintenance engineer whom my sibling had worked with the year prior. A simple message introducing myself and inquiring about the position led to a full-time co-op. This process was the most stressful part of my first year, because I didn’t have experience in engineering interviews and applications. I put in the work, and I learned through trial and error what was being asked of me.

“My job involved handling traffic and safety requests that came in from residents and local government officials. I also went into the field to collect data like traffic counts and make general observations, putting everything together in a report. From there, I came up with recommendations for improvements. I was also able to join weekly meetings where engineers discussed upcoming projects and ongoing issues, which helped me understand how different teams coordinated.

“Overall, this experience taught me so much, and I met some amazing people along the way who took time to explain and show me the difference between public and private sector work.”

Check out one of our co-op highlights, Nathan McAndrew, a game design and development major!

Nathan shared, “This past summer, I was fortunate enough to acquire a Software Engineer Co-op position at Doron Precision Systems Inc. in Binghamton, NY. I found this position through the career fair this past spring.

“I was tasked with implementing fully autonomous vehicles to act as civilian drivers in their scenarios. Although this was the most challenging and time-consuming task given to me, it was also the most enjoyable and rewarding. My education at RIT best prepared me for this, as some of the logic overlapped with previous class projects.

“This experience was incredibly fulfilling. I was able to make an impact at the company and see my contributions being implemented in production code. I was lucky enough to have excellent mentorship at the company as well, which helped me improve my skills as a developer through a continuous feedback loop.”
