Check out one of our co-op highlights, Mathew Kipruto, a print and graphics media science major!

Mathew shared, “My co-op journey began with an introduction to the RIT Print and Postal Services HUB through my graduate advisor, Professor Bruce Meyers, where I continue gaining extensive hands-on experience in print production.

“During the summer and fall, I operated presses with a strong focus on balancing color during live production runs, which has deepened my expertise in color management. I also expanded my skills in the print finishing division by learning to operate the guillotine cutter, booklet maker, and Digi Fold, which has given me a well-rounded understanding of the production workflow.

“What I valued most was running the offset digital press, which challenged me to apply technical precision and problem-solving while connecting classroom learning to real-world production. Beyond technical skills, I strengthened transferable abilities in teamwork, time management, and handling confidential documents with professionalism.”

Check out one of our co-op highlights, Yajna Pandith, a computer science major!

Yajna shared, “I obtained my position with Feenix through an RIT alumnus connection, which made the opportunity even more meaningful. During the internship, I worked on projects at the intersection of data science and product development. I designed a reinforcement learning system for surge pricing in a point-of-sales context, built an Outlook plugin to streamline team workflows, and contributed to a knowledge assistant prototype that leverages Airtable data.

“Through these projects, I have strengthened my skills in reinforcement learning, natural language processing, and API integration, while also gaining hands-on experience with tools. Beyond technical growth, I developed a deeper understanding of how data science can directly support decision-making and operational efficiency in a venture and startup environment.

“What I enjoyed most was the ownership and creative freedom I had. Being able to design and implement systems end-to-end gave me both confidence and clarity in applying advanced concepts to real-world problems.”

Check out one of our co-op highlights, Katherine Collier, a management information systems and business administration major!

Katherine shared, “I completed an internship with Eli Lilly as a Tech@Lilly Intern on the Next Gen MES team under Manufacturing & Quality. I obtained my internship through the 2024 Grace Hopper Celebration, where Women in Business and Women in Computing at RIT sponsored students to attend. At the conference, I had the chance to meet and interview with Eli Lilly recruiters, which ultimately led to receiving an offer.

“Over the summer, I worked on a data analytics team to design and develop a full-stack application hosted on Azure Web Apps. The project was both technically challenging and incredibly rewarding. It gave me the chance to apply technologies I had learned at RIT while also building new skills through hands-on development.

“What I valued most about this experience was being able to contribute to a real-world project that had an impact, while also being surrounded by talented mentors and peers who encouraged me to grow. This internship gave me the chance to strengthen my technical skills while also learning how to align technology solutions with business needs.”

Jason shared, “I worked at Nestlé Health Sciences over the summer as a research intern and found the position through LinkedIn. I was able to work on a novel tablet form that they are developing and finished the initial steps needed for it.

“During my internship, I learned a lot about tableting, tablet characterization, Design of Experiments, and overall concept development. As a result, I have gained knowledge and skills that will be useful as I complete my master’s in materials science.

“The best part of the internship was the number and variety of experts I was exposed to. It broadened my perspective on what cross-functional teamwork could entail, especially in an extensive company like Nestlé Health Sciences.”

Check out one of our co-op highlights, Jenna Trifaro, a mechanical engineering technology major!

Jenna shared, “Over the spring and summer, I had the opportunity to work as a Manufacturing Engineer Intern at Belden, a global leader in broadband solutions. As my first co-op, it was a whirlwind of hands-on projects, new challenges, and major growth in technical and professional skills.

“One of my favorite projects involved reworking a machine used to cut brass bushings for adapter connectors. It had been out of commission, and I was able to rework and improve the machine to get it running again.

“This co-op gave me the opportunity to gain technical skills and connections that will help me grow my career as a mechanical engineer. My favorite part was being able to collaborate with a very talented team of manufacturing engineers to rework and design new manufacturing processes in automation and fiber termination. I’m excited to return to RIT and apply everything I’ve learned as I work toward completing my bachelor’s degree.”
