As she walked across the graduation stage last month, Father's Day took on an entirely new meaning for Ebonie Hicklin '24, '26. She knew that degree wouldn't be possible without her late father, Daniel, who also served in the military.

"My father did so much for me growing up," she said. "He worked two jobs, made sacrifices, and always made sure I had everything I needed while setting my life up for success in the future. Because of his hard work, love, and dedication, I proudly dedicate earning this degree to him. None of this would have been possible without his support, and I will forever be grateful for everything he’s done for me."

Did you know Freedom Walkway, located at 139 E. Main Street in downtown Rock Hill, honors local heroes and their efforts to achieve the promise of liberty and justice for all…and that some of those heroes have connections? A few include Dr. Cynthia P. Roddey ‘67, the first African-American student to enroll at Winthrop; Mary Frayser, an early 1900s sociology professor at Winthrop and strong social justice advocate; William “Dub” Massey ‘74, ‘76, member of the Friendship Nine; and more.

Department of History faculty members O. Jennifer Dixon-McKnight and Eddie Lee ‘83 will speak at a event today, June 19, at 6 p.m. at York’s Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd.

’s Mark Lewis has composed original string music for Black Crown Cinema’s Lullabies and Life, a poetic Juneteenth celebration. That event is tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Belk Place in Charlotte.

"I value a family-oriented environment. Every person I met at Winthrop was very welcoming, and I felt like I belonged there even during my first visit. No other college had the same spark as Winthrop did, even though we traveled all over the Southeast. I plan on double majoring in psychology and criminal justice with goals of becoming a child forensic psychologist."
