The Department of Theatre and Dance presents “The Escape; Or, A Leap for Freedom,” the first published African American play, by William Wells Brown.

The show will run from February 25 through March 1. The production is co-sponsored by African American Studies.

Brattonsville descendants will be doing the talkback after the show on Thursday, February 26.

Dr. O. Jennifer Dixon-McKnight will be doing the talkback after the matinee on Friday, February 27.

Dr. Adolphus Belk will be doing the talkback after the show on the evening of Friday, February 27.

The African American Studies Program is hosting the Dorothy Perry Thompson Colloquium in African American Studies and the African American Experience, an annual event in honor of the program’s founder. This year’s keynote speaker will be Dr. Hilary Green, James B. Duke Professor of Africana Studies at Davidson College, giving a talk titled “African American Porches and the Underappreciated Archives of Civil War Memory.
