The UIC Rockford community is invited to attend a lecture with Dr. Mark Chassin, president emeritus of The Joint Commission, a partner at Relia Healthcare Advisors and one of the world's leading experts in health care quality, patient safety and process improvement.

The lecture happens Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026, from 6:15-7:30 p.m. at Robert J. Vickrey, MD Auditorium.

The lecture's purpose is to compare health care with high-reliability industries, such as aviation, and provide evidence-based approaches that health care organizations and professionals can use to improve quality and patient safety.

Physicians and all health professionals in the community as well as UIC students, residents, faculty and staff are invited to attend.

The University of Illinois College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford (UICOMR) Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology will host a Training Resources for Understanding Trauma and Healing (TRUTH) Seminar on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Robert J. Vickrey MD Auditorium.

UICOMR faculty, residents, fellows and students and UIC College of Nursing Rockford faculty and staff, along with other health care professionals, are invited to this daylong seminar. Coffee and lunch will be provided to those attending in-person.

The Master of Science in Medical Biotechnology Program (MBT) brings students from around the world to Northern Illinois.

Dennis Mafigu, whose entering his second year in the program, is the first MBT student from Zimbabwe.

“It’s one of the best biotechnology programs in the United States,” Mafigu says. “Biotechnology is also a pathway to coming up with vaccines. The program also allows me to gain experience in the program.”

Eight students joining UICOMR’s MBT Program for Fall 2026 started classes on Monday, Aug. 24, 2026. The students came to Rockford from Palestine, India, Mexico, Taiwan, Zimbabwe and the United States.

UIC Rockford was well-represented at UIC Convocation 2026, which happened on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026. There were performances and activities, and participants walked away with a UIC-branded T-shirt, a bucket hat and other UIC swag!
