Holiday & Faculty Development Day Notice

Rock Valley College’s CCE Department will be closed Saturday, September 5 through Monday, September 7 in observance of the holiday.

On Tuesday, September 8, all CCE staff will be participating in an all-day Faculty Development Day. Regular department operations will resume on Wednesday, September 9.

Thank you for your understanding, and we wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend!

What better way to learn about a program than to hear from the people who recently took it.

I’ve been sewing off and on for years, mostly mending or clothes. I had never tried quilting but wanted to expand my sewing skills. I know Deb from working at RVC so I took the first quilting class she offered a few years ago. It quickly became one of my favorite hobbies! Quilting often has an intimidating outward appearance but anyone can learn and Deb’s class is a perfect place to start. She makes sure there’s a fun, relaxed atmosphere so you can learn, work, and create at your own pace; no judgement, just plenty of encouragement.

Instructor spotlight

We're excited to spotlight one of our talented instructors, Dano Aasland.

Many of our students already know him from teaching STEM Explorers & Legos® in our Whiz Kid program. This Fall semester he will be teaching Growing Your Own Medical Cannabis in our adult education program. Be on the lookout or his newest course on 3D Printing in the upcoming semesters.

His diverse background brings a unique perspective to the classroom. He served 16 years in the U.S. Army, has been a licensed nurse for more than a decade, and holds a Master of Science degree in Data Science, and a B.A. in Communications. His passion for learning and sharing knowledge helps create engaging, hands-on experiences for students of all ages.

Did you know?

The College has believed that the community and its development was a vital function. Beginning initially as the Community Services Division in 1969, the department was tasked with bringing community members to the campus, providing educational services for all ages, and promoting the cultural, intellectual and social life of community members.

This is the origin of the Community & Continuing Education Department.

Success starts with taking the first step. Hear from one of our HCCPT students about their journey, accomplishments, and future goals after completing the program.

This program has impacted my life in many ways. HCCTP has given me a significant amount of knowledge and hands-on training in different trades. The program also gave me the confidence to pursue a career in a field that I enjoy doing and can see myself having a future in. I have several certifications, which I obtained in the HCCTP; that will give me a greater opportunity to reach my goals
