linktr.ee/uatshadygrove The Universities at Shady Grove expands access to affordable, high-quality education by bringing nearly 80 career-focused degree programs from nine Maryland public universities to one convenient campus in Montgomery County. Students apply directly to the university offering their chosen undergraduate or graduate program and select USG as their preferred campus. Courses are

taught by faculty from the degree-granting university, and graduates earn the same degree as those who attend the main campus. Undergraduate programs begin at the junior level, providing a seamless transfer pathway for students continuing their education from a community college or another university.

Magaly Lizama Hernandez, a recent graduate of UMBC’s psychology program offered at the Universities at Shady Grove, says the supportive community, scholarships, and mentorship she found at USG helped her grow as a leader and build confidence advocating for mental health awareness in underserved communities.

Elizabeth made it happen. 🎓

Elizabeth earned her degree in Social Work with a minor in Sociology from UMBC while taking classes at the Universities at Shady Grove campus. Some of her favorite memories came from the moments of connection and growth she experienced at USG.

After graduation, she plans to focus on job exploration and take time to enjoy the little things without the stress of school.

Her advice? Stay engaged in class, be present, and keep up with assigned readings—they make a difference.

Today, we’re celebrating Jason Laucel, who will take the stage as a student speaker at the University of Maryland commencement later today!

Jason’s journey reflects the power of the non-traditional student pathway. After beginning at Montgomery College and transferring to UMD at the Universities at Shady Grove, he found a path that combined his passion for technology, ethics, leadership, and service.

As shared in his commencement profile:
“Intrigued by information science concepts like business intelligence, project management and team organization, Laucel transferred to USG, eyeing opportunities to serve society by promoting fairness.”

Graduating with a B.S. in Information Science from University of Maryland at the Universities at Shady Grove, Mike found more than a degree—he found community.

While pursuing his degree at USG, he founded Netverse, a net sports club that brings students together across programs and backgrounds.

Next stop: taking the next steps in his career with a long-term goal of returning to the classroom as a professor.
