Congratulations to our CPSE seniors for showcasing their capstone projects at the University of Maryland Design Expo!

The seniors worked on these projects in Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 in their ENEB 408A and 408B classes.

These projects represent hard work, late nights, creativity, collaboration, and growth. It was amazing to celebrate how far they’ve come and all they’ve accomplished.

We are incredibly proud of each of you and can’t wait to see the impact you’ll make next. Great job, seniors!

We were excited to return to University of Maryland College Park for Maryland Day on April 25!

Our team had the opportunity to share projects like SignScribe—a portable robotic sign language interpreter—along with Sylvester the Robo Cat and Tweety the drone.

Throughout the day, we connected with a wide range of community members, including aspiring engineers, current students, families, and supporters of all backgrounds who are passionate about creating opportunities and shaping a bright future through STEM.

Moments like these remind us of the importance of building spaces where everyone can see themselves represented and empowered in engineering.

At just 19 years old, a Germantown resident became the youngest engineering graduate in UMD’s Cyber-Physical Systems Engineering (CPSE) program, which is conveniently located in Montgomery County at The Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville, MD.

His journey from Montgomery County Public Schools to Montgomery College and ultimately the University of Maryland is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when local education creates opportunity.

"Today, Alim Saidkhodjaev works full-time as a research engineer…where he applies his…background in electrical and computer engineering to diamond technology projects. His work includes contributing to groundbreaking, Department of Energy–sponsored research as well as a NASA-affiliated project focused on developing diamond power electronics for space applications.”

What does real-world engineering look like before graduation? For CPSE seniors, it starts with capstone.

This fall, our seniors completed ENEB408A: Capstone Design Lab I taught by Dr. Nestor Michael Tiglao, the first course in a two-semester, industry-aligned capstone sequence in the Cyber-Physical Systems Engineering (CPSE) program. Students don’t just learn theory, they identify real problems, design system-level solutions, and build working prototypes that integrate hardware, software, sensing, and intelligence.

In the upcoming spring semester, these teams continue into Capstone Design Lab II, refining, testing, and validating their systems, mirroring the workflow of professional engineers before graduation.

Why does this matter for prospective students? CPSE students graduate with:
- Hands-on experience solving open-ended, real-world problems
- Confidence working across IoT, embedded systems, software, and AI
- A portfolio-ready capstone project that demonstrates engineering maturity

👏 Congratulations to our seniors on reaching this milestone.
