Thankfully not in Maryland!

WHAT A SAD EXPERIENCE TO GO THROUGH!!!! Waooo I Never thought that cheese would ever be a victim of theft !!!🥹😞

We have some difficult news to share.
Neal's Yard Dairy has been the victim of a theft resulting
in the loss of over 22 tonnes of clothbound Cheddar.

The theft involved a fraudulent buyer posing as a
legitimate wholesale distributor for a major French
retailer. Over 950 wheels of Hafod, Westcombe, and
Pitchfork Cheddar were delivered before the fraud was
discovered. Despite the significant financial blow, we
have honoured our commitment to our small-scale
suppliers and paid all three artisan cheesemakers in full.

We are currently working with law enforcement
authorities to identify the perpetrators of this fraud. In
the meantime, we would like to put out a call to everyone
within our esteemed community of cheesemongers
around the world. If anyone is offered or receives
cheeses they believe may have been associated with
this theft, particularly clothbound Cheddars in a 10kg or
24kg format with the tags detached, please contact
[email protected] so we can support the police
in their investigation

Thank you for your support

Look at those babies! ❤️

Mike Koch insists he's not a doomsday prepper, but he's keenly aware of how fragile our food supply chain can be. "The American mindset has been that all my food should be cheap and I should be able to get fresh raspberries in February," he says, "and I think something may come along that reminds us...

Yeah Amanda!!! Great ladies make great cheese! ❤️👍

When Amanda Miller began cheesemaking almost 10 years ago, little did she know it would turn into a hunger for more. “I love cooking and baking and thought this couldn’t be much different. Boy, was I wrong! I fell in love with the challenge of learning and the science of cheese,” she says. To ...

I love a good quiz!

Over half of the milk used around the world comes from goats! Goat milk has smaller fat molecules than cow milk, which means no cream separation (it's also naturally richer than most cow's milk). However, there are some traditional cow's milk cheeses that are much more difficult to make with goat's milk (and vice-versa). Do you know what they are?

The Maryland Cheese world lost a stalwart. Mr Hogan judged our first homemade cheese contest at the Montgomery County Ag Fair, MD, and he reached out to local dairies to sell cheese at the fair.

We will miss you Mr Hogan!! ❤️🧀

After achieving 95.5 years, Ed Hogan, Sr., Dad aka "Grandad", "Great Grandad", "Uncle Ed", and "The Big Cheese" has finally earned his wings as he passed last night surrounded by family in the privacy of his home. I'm positive he was greeted by Blanche wanting to know "what took him so long?" Heaven has gained one awesome Angel and we thank God for allowing us to have him for as long as we have. Funeral information will be posted shortly.

Ruminants make cheese!

University of Maryland Extension is hiring a Ruminant Livestock Specialist. This position is a combination of my old position and the dairy/beef position that was vacated last year. I'm hoping for a small ruminant person, with knowledge of other livestock. A Master's degree is required. PhD preferred. The position will be based at the Western Maryland Research & Education in Keedysville, my old office -- a great place to work. Contact me if you have questions about the position, the people, and the facility. Small ruminant people, please apply! We need someone good. Would be a great opportunity for a new grad.

In recognition of National Butter Day, we're highlighting Guernsey Cattle. A distinctive characteristic of the breed is the golden color of its milk, which results from exceptionally high levels of carotene, a precursor to Vitamin A. It is thought that the Guernsey excels in its ability to absorb this nutrient and transfer it to butterfat. Guernsey milk has been promoted under the trademark “Golden Guernsey.” Butter made from the milk is distinctively golden. https://livestockconservancy.org/heritage-breeds/heritage-breeds-list/guernsey-cattle/
