On Friday 4/21/2023, Matan Amitay and Nick Green, two North Carolina Wesleyan University Exercise Sciecne seniors attended Nashville Elementary School's Science Day to speak to 4th and 5th grade students about sports science as it relates to their science curriculum. They utilized a pair of portable force plates with software that analyzed student's jump height and force used.

Tristan Vansteene (Exercise Science Senior) won second place in the upper-level division at the 18th Annual Student Symposium poster competition, held on Wednesday, April 19th in the Dunn Center. Tristan’s project was titled, “The Effect of Physical Activity After Concussion on Concussion-Related Sleep Problems,” and his faculty mentor on the project was Dr. Shannon Crowley.

Dr. Meir Magal in collaboration with Rolando Valladarez, a former honors student; Dr. Shannon Crowley; coach Vanessa Batchelor and Dr. Jay Hoffman from Ariel University in Israel had a manuscript titled: “Seasonal Changes in Physical Performance–Related Variables in Women NCAA Division III Soccer Players” accepted into publication in Gazzetta Medica Italiana - Archivio per le Scienze Mediche.

Dr. Shannon Crowley, Associate Professor of Exercise Science, has been selected for the 2023-2024 Jefferson-Pilot Professorship award. This award is the highest and most singular honor that can be bestowed upon a faculty member and is given in recognition of scholarship, teaching and community service.

On February 24, 25 and 26, Drs. Crowley and Magal and Ms. Vanessa Batchelor, along with seven students, attended the regional conference of the American College of Sports Medicine in Greenville, SC. Both Drs. Crowley and Magal mentored some of the students:

▪️Dr. Shannon Crowley served as the faculty mentor to Exercise Science Senior, Mr. Tristan Vansteene’s scientific poster presentation. Tristan’s presentation was titled, “The Effect of Physical Activity After Concussion on Concussion-Related Sleep Problems.”
▪️Dr. Meir Magal served as the faculty mentor to Exercise Science Senior, Mr. Matan Amitay’s scientific poster presentation. Matan’s presentation was titled, “A Pilot Study Comparing the Traditional Bar Grip and the Pelvic Belt Methods to Measure Mid-Thigh Isometric Pull Performance in Collegiate Male Athletes.”
▪️Dr. Meir Magal served as the faculty mentor to Exercise Science Senior, Ms. Kelsey Hutchison’s scientific poster presentation. Kelsey’s presentation was titled, “Pre-Season Countermovement Jump Derived Neuromuscular Performance in Female NCAA Division III Soccer Players.”
▪️Dr. Meir Magal served as the faculty mentor to Exercise Science Senior, Ms. Isabel Neall’s scientific poster presentation. Isabel’s presentation was titled, “High and Low Performer Differences in Countermovement Jump Derived Neuromuscular Performance in Female NCAA Division III Soccer Players.”
