🌞 Summer in North Carolina can get HOT! 🌞

As temperatures rise, it’s important to protect yourself from heat-related illness. Whether you’re spending time at the beach, exercising outdoors, attending summer events, or working outside, taking simple precautions can help keep you safe.

💧 Stay hydrated
🧢 Dress for the weather
☀️ Avoid prolonged sun exposure during peak heat hours
🏠 Find cool spaces when possible

Heat-related illnesses can affect anyone, but young children, older adults, and people with chronic health conditions may be at greater risk.

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and enjoy a healthy summer! 💙💛

📱 How much time do you spend on your phone each day?

Technology helps us stay connected, but too much screen time can affect our sleep, stress levels, focus, and overall well-being.

Taking small breaks from social media and screens can help improve your mental health and create more opportunities for meaningful connections. Whether it’s taking a walk outside, spending time with friends, reading a book, or simply enjoying a few minutes of quiet, giving yourself a break from the scroll can make a difference.

This week, challenge yourself to spend at least 30 minutes each day doing something offline that supports your well-being. 🌿💙

Summer can be fun, but it’s also important to take care of your mental health. 🌿
Taking time to rest, recharge, and connect with others can improve both your physical and emotional well-being. Even small things like getting fresh air, staying active, or taking a break from screens can help reduce stress. 💚
Remember: self-care is not selfish.
What’s one thing you do to protect your mental health during the summer? ⬇️

May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚
Mental health is an important part of overall health, and taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of your physical health. Whether it’s reaching out to a friend, taking a break from stress, spending time outside, or asking for support, every step toward protecting your mental well-being matters.
At North Carolina Wesleyan University Public Health, we encourage our students, faculty, staff, and community to continue breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and supporting one another.
Remember:You are not alone. It’s okay to ask for help.Your mental health matters. 💚

🎉 Exciting news for NC Wesleyan! 🎉

North Carolina Wesleyan University is proud to announce that our Master of Public Health (MPH) program has received approval of its initial application for accreditation from the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH)—the nationally recognized accrediting body for public health programs.

This approval, granted during CEPH’s April meeting, gives our MPH program official applicant status and allows us to move forward in the accreditation process, including completion of a comprehensive self-study.

“This is an exciting step forward for our MPH program and for North Carolina Wesleyan University,” said Dr. Shannon Crowley, Professor of Public Health and MPH Program Director. “Achieving CEPH applicant status demonstrates the strength of our program and our commitment to preparing future public health professionals…to make a difference in their communities.”

NCWU’s MPH program offers specialized concentrations in Physical Activity and Health and Social Epidemiology, making us the only institution in North Carolina to offer these unique focus areas.
