Join Frederick County 4-H at the 4-H Showcase October 9th -14th in celebration of National 4-H week to highlight the exciting accomplishments of our 4-H'ers and their project work during 2021.

4-H'ers may enter indoor exhibits for judging, receive premiums, and participate in the 4-H CAKE AUCTION, in addition to clubs providing demonstrations to the public.

This FREE event for the community will be held at the Downtown Community Room on West Church Street in Frederick. Daily hands-on activities and giveaways will be offered to 4-H members and the public to learn about 4-H.

Daily Highlights Include:

Entries for the 4-H Showcase & the 4-H CAKE AUCTION will open August 1st through 4HOnline. Awards and Premiums will be awarded for individual and club entries.

Hometown Treats you've grown to LOVE from our Frederick County 4-H'ers.

The Frederick County 4-H Cake Auction will be Sunday October 10, 2021 at the Downtown Community Room in Frederick. Join our Frederick County 4-H'ers to purchase a cake, pie, cookies or a goodie basket to help support teaching local children through safe, hands on learning and life skill development.

Important Livestock Information !

Weigh Ins & Tagging of Market Animals & Commercial Females
1. Ownership of Animals and Registration Forms due June 1, 2020 online at https://go.umd.edu/frederick

2. RFID or Scrapie Tags are required on the forms as Identification of your animal.

3. 4-H will NOT be holding the scheduled weigh-ins in June. A tagging day may be scheduled at a later date prior to August 1, 2020.

4. Rate of Gain will NOT be required in 2020 for Market Sheep, Market Pigs and Market Goats ONLY. Market Steers will still be required to follow Rate of Gain expectations.

Breeding Project Animals

1. Deadline for ownership is July 1st, 2020.

2. Animals are to be registered through their respective purebred Association solely in the name of the 4-H member by the ownership deadline.

Poultry and Rabbit Registration
1. New for 2020! All 4-H'ers exhibiting Rabbits and Poultry will complete their inventory reports online.
Paperwork is due electronically by June 1st 2020 at https://go.umd.edu/inventory2020

ID Cards (Alpaca-Dog-Horse)
1. ID cards will be available electronically in next week's 4-H Friday update. Completed forms will be due June 1st 2020

Leasing Paperwork
1. All leasing paperwork is due electronically to the 4-H office by July 1st 2020. Forms may be downloaded from the Frederick County website. Completed forms may be scanned and emailed to Ms Jennie at [email protected]

All you can eat steamed shrimp, adult beverages and chance to win cash at the 4-H Camp Center in Jefferson TONIGHT. $25 a person. Tickets available at the door. 21 and Over. Tip jars and 50/50 available. Doors open at 6 dinner at 7. Proceeds to benefit the 4H camp center.

Steer Weigh In Updates:

As we prepare for our annual market steer tagging and weigh in day tomorrow we hope you consider the following points as your family prepares.

Weigh in will be from 7 am - Noon this Saturday at building 18 at the GFF fairgrounds. Upon arrival trailers will form a single line from building 18 down machinery row towards the swine Barn.

The gate at the swine Barn will be open for entry and gate 3 will be used as an exit. For those traveling from the eastern part of the county, a reminder the bridge over the monocacy at Gas House Pike is closed.

If you are participating in the bred and owned steer class at the fair, you will need to bring a copy of your breeding records for review by the superintendents.

If you have a copy of your purebred registration papers you may also provide them to the superintendent on Saturday. Do not give the superintendent your original paperwork.

Once your animals are tagged and weighed, you will receive a copy of your market registration paper. Please keep these in a safe place as you will need them when it is time to register for the fair.

Members will also be drawing sale numbers for September. These numbers will be utilized to determine sale order once the sale eligibility list is established.

If you still need to pay your club fee of $25, Patti Jacobs will be on-site to collect.

And most importantly dress accordingly for the weather. We are taking measures to ensure our volunteers stay warm and hydrated so we keep the line moving quickly.

Due to temperatures and wind chill limiting excessive air flow through the trailer for your cattle will be beneficial. As with anytime you transport your animals, be mindful of there daily routine for any changes following weigh in.

We are excited for our 2018 show season with 89 members participating in the beef project.

Tonight is our annual Sportsmans Raffle! Please be there at 2 PM to help set up tables. Doors open at 4:30, dinner at 5:30, and the drawing begins at 6:30. Let's make this another successful fundraiser!
