🦷 The latest issue of NEOMED's Ignite Magazine features the students who are helping build something bigger than dentistry.

As members of the inaugural class of NEOMED’s Bitonte College of Dentistry, Arash Khan, Hunter Trautmann, Rebekka Hall and Abigail Goshow helped launch NEOMED’s first chapter of the Student Dental Association (ASDA).

In just five months, they established chapter leadership and began creating opportunities for professional development, networking and community outreach while laying a foundation for future dental students.

Students in NEOMED’s Bitonte College of Dentistry are putting their clinical training into practice as they learn how to perform head and neck cancer screenings under the supervision of faculty dentists.

From now through Dec. 15, the new Bitonte College of Dentistry clinic is offering free head and neck cancer screenings to the community. These quick, non-invasive screenings examine areas including the lips, tongue, gums, cheeks, throat and other structures for signs that may require further evaluation.

Screenings are performed by dentistry students in pairs, giving students valuable hands-on experience while providing an important service to the community.

As the Bitonte College of Dentistry enters its second year, founding Dean Sorin Teich, D.M.D., M.B.A., reflects on the people who made the College’s remarkable inaugural year possible — from faculty and staff to students, University colleagues and the Bitonte family.

Now, with 52 students joining the College’s second class, the next chapter is underway. They will celebrate their White Coat Ceremony tomorrow.

And there’s one milestone Dr. Teich is already looking forward to most: the graduation of the first class of students.
