was organized on November 12, 1922 in Indianapolis, Indiana by seven young educators: Mary Lou Allison Little, Dorothy Hanley Whiteside, Vivian White Marbury, Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, Hattie Mae Dulin Redford, Bessie M. The group became an incorporated national collegiate sorority on December 30, 1929, when a charter was granted to Alpha chapter at Butler University. From seven young educators, Si

gma Gamma Rho has become an international service organization comprised of women from every profession. Sigma Gamma Rho offers its members opportunities to develop their unique talents through leadership training and involvement in sorority activities. Sorority activities provide an atmosphere where friendships and professional contacts are developed which often lead to bonds that last a lifetime. On July 12, 2014, Mu Beta Sigma Chapter received the charge to provide Greater Service to Round Rock, TX and surrounding communities. The Charter members are Sorors Maureen Oyiriaru, Virginia Pearson, Mina Hill, Eva Marlene King, Venice Taylor, Tawanda McCall, Shanea McGee and Jennifer Beckford. The members of Mu Beta Sigma pledge to continue the legacy of our seven founders to serve as dynamic pillars of the community and servant leaders. We offer our members opportunities to serve the community and develop their unique talents through leadership training, community service, and involvement in social activities. Throughout the year activities provide an atmosphere where friendships and professional networks are developed which can lead to bonds that last a lifetime.

The Sigma Gamma Rho Rhosebud Club provides young girls with fun, age-appropriate opportunities to build confidence, practice leadership, serve their communities, form new friendships, and blossom into their very best selves. 💛

💙💛 Today, Mu Beta Sigma recognizes Women’s Equality Day—a time to honor the adoption of the 19th Amendment and reflect honestly on the work that remained.

Although the amendment prohibited denying women the vote based on s*x, many women of color continued to face poll taxes, literacy tests, intimidation and other discriminatory barriers for decades. Black women and other women of color did not simply benefit from the movement—they organized, advocated and helped move our nation closer to its promise of equality.

That history matters here at home. Williamson County currently has 461,171 registered voters. Women comprise 50.4% of the county’s population, while 25.6% of residents are Hispanic or Latino, 14.2% are Asian and 8.1% are Black. While voter-registration data are not broken down locally by gender and race, these population figures remind us that every voice in our diverse community deserves to be heard and every vote matters. On Women’s Equality Day, we honor the women who came before us, celebrate the progress they made possible and recommit ourselves to protecting voting access and advancing equality for all women.

💙💛 Motivated MBS Leaders Are Ready to Lead! 💙💛

On August 22, 2026, leaders from the Mu Beta Sigma Alumnae Chapter attended the Southwestern Region Leadership Conference at the Hilton DFW Conference Center in Grapevine, Texas.

Throughout the conference, our Sorors gained valuable insight into purposeful leadership, effective communication, organizational responsibilities, consistent branding, strategic planning, and the importance of leading with excellence. We returned energized, inspired, and prepared to put what we learned into action.

Mu Beta Sigma remains a pillar in the Round Rock community because our leaders are committed to serving with purpose, strengthening our sisterhood, and creating meaningful change. The Motivated Mu Beta Sigma is ready to work, ready to serve, and ready to continue making a difference—one initiative, one family, and one community at a time.
