ENMU-Ruidoso Men’s Cross Country Team Takes 1st Place at Home Meet

The ENMU-Ruidoso Cross Country Teams hosted the second annual Cross Country Meet on Thursday, Oct. 1, at the Inn of the Mountain Gods, Mescalero. The meet brought in four college teams from ENMU-Ruidoso, University of the Southwest (USW) from Hobbs, Northern New Mexico College (NNMC) from Espanola, and New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) from Roswell.

The first race was the Women’s Teams, who ran 5k or 3 miles. The top ten finishers were Terry Kipingo, NMMI, 24:02; Katlyn Washburn, USW, 24:49; Elianna Saenz, USW, 25:06; Ashtyn Walter, ENMU-Ruidoso, 25:51; Chyenne Marrufo, ENMU-Ruidoso, 32:56; Taylianna Castillo, NNMC, 34:56; Maliyah Lee, NNMC, 39:51; Nadia Randall, NNMC, 40:10; Tana Lopez, NNMC, 41:00; and Paulina Lopez, NNMC, 40:28. Each of the top ten received carved wooden medals. The Top Individual overall Women’s Cross Country runner was Terry Kipingo of New Mexico Military Institute, with a time of 24:02; she won a carved wooden bear trophy.

Northern New Mexico College earned the Top Women’s Team award and won a carved wooden bear team trophy.

The second race of the meet was the Men’s Teams, who ran 8k or 5 miles. The top 15 finishers were Jayvn Frank, ENMU-Ruidoso, 30:27; Simon Vasquez, ENMU-Ruidoso, 31:43; Michael Dominguez, USW, 31:44; Gavin Castillo, ENMU-Ruidoso, 33:10; Jack Wisdom, ENMU-Ruidoso, 33:32; Tristan Rodriguez, USW, 33:35; Chris Espino, USW, 33:46; Cole Hanshew, ENMU-Ruidoso, 35:10; Robbie Yazzie, USW, 35:59; Jerimy Williams, ENMU-Ruidoso, 35:46; Brayden Rocha, ENMU-Ruidoso, 36:19; Adam Pirkl, USW, 36:50; Jaime Cano, USW, 37:08; Adam Montoya, NNMC and Robert Muniz, ENMU-Ruidoso.

ENMU-Ruidoso earned the Top Men’s Team award, winning a carved wooden bear trophy. The Top Individual overall winner of the Men’s Cross Country Division was Jayvn Franks of ENMU-Ruidoso with a time of 30:27.

There are only two meets left this season. Friday, Oct. 16, will be the New Mexico Junior College Thunderbird Open at the Harry McAdams Park in Hobbs, and the Regional Tournament will be held in Hobbs on Friday, Oct. 30.

The Mesalands College Rodeo Draw is posted. The ENMU-Ruidoso Rodeo Team will compete in the Friday evening, Oct. 9, Rodeo Performance at 6 p.m. and in the Saturday, Oct. 10, Slack at 9 a.m.

Friday Night Rodeo Performance
Eli Foster will be 1st out in Tie Down Roping and 12th out in the Steer Wrestling; Olyvia Hildman will be 9th out in Barrel Racing; Maguel Martinez will be 7th out in the Bull Riding.

Saturday Morning Slack
Savannah Fresquez will run 9th in the Barrel Racing, and Camielle Taylor will run 23rd; Olyvia Hildman will be 17th out in the Breakaway Roping; in the Team Roping, Olyvia Hildman and Walker Hanafin will be 13th out, Camielle Taylor and Eli Foster will be 20th, and Lena Berens (NMSU) and Marcos "Mac" Casaus will be 22nd

Casita’s Café on Campus is Open for Business
Casita’s Café on Campus opened today, Monday, Oct. 5, at 8 a.m. The Café is open to the public and students, faculty and staff can enjoy a 20% discount with their ENMU-Ruidoso ID. The first customers were ENMU-Ruidoso Community Education Ceramics Student Scarlet Kelly and her two daughters, Jane (in the cap) and Lucy! “I saw the College Facebook post last week, then forgot about it until I walked into the College and could smell it” said Scarlet. Casita's Café on Campus will be open weekly. Mondays through Thursdays, 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

In recent years, the community of Ruidoso has experienced life-impacting fires, mass evacuations, and flooding that have displaced families and taken lives. Students training in Eastern New Mexico University-Ruidoso's Fire & Rescue Academy have stepped up to fill the need for more first responders to keep their neighbors safe.
