Down the road they go!

The Arkansas Tech University Symphonic Wind Ensemble departed from campus just after sunrise on Tuesday, Feb. 24, and began a great adventure. Among the well wishers on hand to see them off were ATU President Dr. Russell Jones, several ATU administrators and members of the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys football team.

The ensemble will make stops and perform at Greenwood High School (Ark.), Mustang High School (Okla.) and Ryan High School (Texas) on its way to Denton, Texas, where it will offer the primetime performance at the College Band Directors National Association Southwestern Division Conference on Thursday, Feb. 26.

Best wishes to Dr. Daniel A. Belongia and the entire ATU Symphonic Wind Ensemble as they represent us on one of the most prestigious stages available to a university band.

We are five weeks away from the dedication of Ferguson Student Union.

Congratulations to these gifted writers!

The Arkansas Tech University Department of English and World Languages, in partnership with the ATU Office of Admissions, has announced the winners of its annual creative writing scholarship contest for high school seniors.

They are:

First Place: Julian Robertson, Marshall High School, $1,500
Second Place: Alivia Key, Prescott High School, $1,000
Third Place: Bailey Potter, Marshall High School, $1,000
Fourth Place: Hannah Neighbors, Fountain Lake High School, $500
Fifth Place: Taegan Wolfgram, Two Rivers High School, $500
Sixth Place: Ella Lovell, Valley Springs High School, $500

In addition to the one-time $1,500 award, Robertson’s winning submission will appear in the spring 2026 issue of Nebo, Arkansas Tech’s student-edited literary journal.

Submissions were judged by ATU Department of English and World Languages faculty members Dr. Claire Kortyna, Dr. Mary Sharpe, Dr. Stan Lombardo and Eli Cranor.
