🌲Thank you to our 2026 Forestry Interns!🌲

This summer we had the privilege of working with two outstanding forestry interns!

Bankston "Banks" Darland-Huckaby at Hunt Forest Products, LLC and Margaret "Maggie" Dickerson at Bienville Lumber Company, LLC.

Throughout their internships, Bankston and Maggie gained valuable insight, hands-on experience, expanded their industry knowledge, and contributed to our Forestry Operations.

We sincerely apprecite their hard work, enthusiasm, and dedication throughout the (hot!) summer.

Thank you both for being a part of our team; we wish you continued success in your academic and professional journeys!

Big thanks to LFA and all those who help support our students’ scholarships!

🔬 Hands-on learning in Veterinary Techniques!

Our Animal Science students were introduced to cytology and fine-needle aspiration (FNA). Using a realistic canine model, students located simulated skin masses, collected samples, prepared slides, and practiced making blood smears.

At Louisiana Tech, we aim to provide practical, real-world learning experiences that help students connect classroom concepts with skills used in veterinary medicine.

DID YOU KNOW? Veterinary practitioners commonly use fine-needle aspiration and cytology as minimally invasive tools to evaluate skin masses, while blood-smear examination can provide valuable information about blood cells and various disorders.

🐾 Veterinary Continuing Education at Louisiana Tech!

Today, Louisiana Tech was excited to host a continuing education event sponsored by Midwest Veterinary Supply, welcoming veterinary professionals from across Louisiana to campus.

We were fortunate to have six veterinary specialists share their expertise on a variety of topics throughout the day. Our pre-veterinary students also had the opportunity to get involved by helping host the event, interact with veterinary professionals, and experience another side of the profession outside the classroom.

Events like this are another way Louisiana Tech is investing in veterinary engagement and experiences for our pre-vet students, while also providing an opportunity to serve and support veterinarians in our local and regional communities.

And, of course, a great day of continuing education is even better with a delicious BBQ lunch! 🐷

Thank you to Midwest Veterinary Supply, our speakers, participating veterinarians, and students who helped make today a success!

This simple yet invaluable technique is used by veterinary practitioners in surgery and wound management every day! After learning when and why Penrose drains are used, students gained hands-on experience placing and securing drains while practicing basic surgical instrument handling and suture techniques.

DID YOU KNOW 🐶🐴 Louisiana Tech Animal Science students gain hands-on experience with a wide variety of species, including cattle, horses, sheep, goats, swine, poultry, and companion animals throughout their coursework.
