Dignity Health Saint Joseph's Hospital Stockton, Ca will be the strategic clinical partner of the , providing essential clinical learning opportunities for future physicians. Just last month, St. Joseph’s broke ground on a massive nearly $800 million expansion. 🏥

“We are both deeply committed to our shared values of excellence, inclusion, integrity, collaboration and humankindness, and share an urgent desire to address the dangerous and growing physician shortage in San Joaquin County and across the Central Valley,” said David Ziolkowski, CEO of St. Joseph's Medical Center, in agreement with President Christopher Callahan.

Over the past few years, St. Joseph’s has been an essential partner to the School of Health Sciences, offering clinical rotations for students in the Central Valley. For decades, Tony and Virginia Chan have devoted their time and resources to advancing health education at University of the Pacific. Their gifts have helped build and renovate teaching facilities at the School of Health Sciences, including the Chan Family Health Sciences Learning Center and the Chan Family Health Education Building. Tony also helped drive the creation of University of the Pacific - Physician Assistant Program, which has graduated more than 300 alumni.

Last week, the Chan Family announced they are major donors in advancing the . “With Pacific preparing to open a school of medicine, we have been called upon to step up and further contribute to the health of our communities. We hope many others will join us in answering that call,” said Tony.

In 1858, University of the Pacific founded the first medical school in the West, which eventually became the Stanford University School of Medicine. This month, Pacific announced a return to its medical school roots with the launch of the , expanding on the university’s long history of educating health care professionals. Launching in Fall 2030, the Pacific School of Medicine will provide much-needed medical education, expanding access to health care for the Central Valley and beyond.
