Our 3rd-level ARC engineering students are shown here in a dual-studio session with the band Gospel TBD, tracking straight to 2-inch analog tape.

To get the best possible separation and tone, students managed a complex signal flow across our two main studios, with the rhythm section live in Studio B while keeping the vocals perfectly isolated over in Studio A. Hitting physical tape means committing to your sounds at the source, while executing the engineering, routing, and analog workflow flawlessly. 📼 🔥

A massive thank you to Chris Mara for bringing his "Reels on Wheels" tour to American River College on September 25th! 🎛️

Our Commercial Music students got a hands-on demonstration of a fully restored Mara Machines tape deck.

Chris walked us through creative ways to utilize analog tape in today’s hybrid tracking and mixing workflows. Students learned how to hit tape to capture natural compression and harmonic saturation — the perfect bridge between vintage sonic footprints and modern production techniques. Sacramento State College Jazz band at ARC Studios! Tracked live by our American River College Commercial Music students. Performers were split between two separate studios with Pro Tools sync'd over ARC's multi-studio audio and video network. The band performed fabulously, and the recording sounded fantastic!
