We are saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Jack Foote. Dr. Foote was a member of the Sacramento State music faculty for 29 years, teaching bands, saxophone, and music education and advising the graduate performance program. During his long tenure, he directed the University’s marching and concert bands and jazz ensemble and contributed extensively to the musical life of the School. In later years, he also developed and adapted online music courses for Sacramento State.

The NorCal Wind Conducting Symposium, founded by Dr. Robert Halseth at Sacramento State in June 1994, is back for its 29th year in 2026! Open to adult conductors, the six-day Symposium will provide a safe, nurturing environment of professional development in which to improve conducting skills, rehearsal techniques, and wind literature awareness. There are still spots open for performing conductors and observers!

Work one on one with our Guest Artist Clinician, Dr. John Lynch, and our current Sacramento State Director of Bands, Dr. Matthew Morse.

In April, our wonderful University Chorale was honored to perform with Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera. The program “Love and Death” featured conductor Melisse Brunet, and the combined choruses sang Faurè’s “Requiem,” a major staple of choral canon.

Tonight, tonight! The Wind Ensemble performs their final concert of the 2025-2026 school year. Under the direction of Dr. Matthew Morse, they will perform Electrons Dancing" by Anthony O'Toole,
"L'histoire de la Nouvelle-Orléans" by Alan Theisen,
"Symphonic Dances from West Side Story" by Leonard Bernstein, and
"Fanfare for an Angel" by James M. Stephenson.
