Sacramento City College is saddened to hear of the passing of our longtime choral director, Doreen Irwin.

Doreen taught choir and voice at SCC for 35 years, during which time she influenced and touched the lives of countless students of all ages. Her unparalleled energy and enthusiasm was infectious to both her students and colleagues. She will be terribly missed.

Job Title:
Special Projects - Piano Accompanist (Temporary)

Job Description:
Seeking piano accompanist for Sacramento City College’s Vocal and Choral classes. This includes attending class sessions to support and assist the instructor in group vocal training and rehearsal, attending off-site performances as the official accompanist for the Sacramento City College Vocal and Choral performances, assisting students in individualized vocal rehearsals and performances, and other duties as required to support the program in general.

Minimum Qualifications:
Experience: One year of experience in educational and professional music practices including piano accompaniment with choral ensembles, vocal recitals, and orchestras or bands. Education: Completion of an Associate’s Degree in Music or 60-semester units (90 quarter units) with 26 units in music courses.

Pay Is:
21.32 per hour - up to 20 hours per week.

Why not take a Spring music class? Here are just a sampling of interesting classes available to meet your needs:

MUFHL 320 - Exploring Music: Have you ever wondered how music works? Have you always wanted to read music, but never thought you could? This class will help you understand the language of music. At the end of the semester, you will be able to read and write music at a functional level. (online or hybrid)

MUSM 115 - The Development and Management of an Independent Record Label: Many artists are deciding to produce their projects independently, and this class shows you how. (online)

MUFHL 311 - Western Music History (1750-present): Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Brahms! Learn about the people who wrote the most beautiful, passionate music of all time, and learn how the music evolved to reflect societal changes. (online)

Please check out the schedule for other classes that help you learn to play instruments, sing, or appreciate various types of music. Some classes are fully online, and some have face-to-face meetings (although we are fully online through 1/30).
