The Communication Studies Department is excited to announce that a new Communication Studies major with four interdisciplinary concentrations just launched in Fall 2026!

Starting this Fall, students joining the department will choose one of four curated concentrations that provide a cohesive plan of study and more specialization in an area of communication: Culture & Advocacy; Media & Mediated Communication; Identity, Health & Personal Relationships; and Work/Life & Organizational Communication. Current ComS majors and undeclared students can opt into the new major, too!

To learn more, including what each concentration entails, how the structure is improved compared to the current General Communication BA, and how to opt in to the new major, join an info session: Monday, October 19 from 12 to 1 p.m., in person, (with pizza!) or Tuesday, October 20 from 10:30 to 11 a.m. via Zoom. You are cordially invited to attend the third Communication Studies Graduate Qualitative Research Showcase Tuesday, May 12 at 5:30 p.m. in Mendocino Hall 2009. Refreshments will be provided.

Join us for six riveting, short, conference-style presentations featuring qualitative grad student research from COMS 203 regarding: How women self-advocate with health care providers; managing uncertainty while job hunting; how young black men frame higher ed and navigate disengagement stereotypes; how students make meaning of AI policies in higher education; dance teachers’ verbal and nonverbal feedback strategies; and le***an sensemaking through media and fandom.
