Hello! Hello! My name is Jill Birchall. I work here at American River College as a Department Chair for the Deaf Culture & ASL Studies program.

We are excited to announce that we are continuing our Deaf Self Advocacy Training, DSAT! The training is provided for our Deaf students taking classes at ARC. DSAT is critical and important because Deaf students can learn how to advocate for their rights as students.

For communication access, interpreting services, working with your professors, if you need accommodations for your classes and your professors do not understand your needs and you want better accommodations, how can you express yourself effectively? And how you can advocate for yourself to communicate with your professors explaining your needs?

There are many different situations that DSAT will be beneficial. YES! If you are interested, please grab the opportunity to join us! We will have three workshops, you must come to all workshops as they are connected and will build on information. The first one will be on Friday, Oct 27th from 1pm to 4pm. The second one will be on Friday, Nov 3 from 1pm to 4pm then, the third one will be on Friday, Nov 10 from 1pm to 4pm.

If you show up to and complete all three workshops, you will become a student ambassador next semester. This means you would be included on several projects, working here and more will be shared when you attend all three workshops. If you are interested, please contact me at [email protected]. I look forward to meeting you all at the workshops! Thank you!
