Big things happening at Saginaw Valley State University!

Our Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner post-graduate certificate program is designed to prepare current primary care nurse practitioners to meet the needs of someone battling substance use disorder and other mental health crises.

This program expands the scope of practice for primary care nurse practitioners to provide integrated mental health and addiction care across the lifespan in acute and primary care settings.

What sets the SVSU Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Post Graduate Certificate program apart?

- Unique focus on substance use disorders
- Emphasis on telehealth and innovative technologies to improve access to care in rural communities
- Designed for practitioners in rural communities
- All lectures are prerecorded so they can be downloaded in case high-speed internet is not available

JOB SUMMARY:
Provide assistance to staff, greet walk-ins, support, and assist with clerical, customer service, and/or general labor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Greet office visitors, answer the telephone and appropriately record messages.
· Schedule appointments for professional staff people.
· Communicate with people both internationally and domestically by phone, email, Facebook, text message, and CRM as assigned.
· Learn and stay updated about processes for different requests for graduate or international admissions.
· Assist with office tasks, record keeping, and communications in our Customer Relationship Management software
· Accurately and expeditiously collect, enter, and update data as needed.
· Utilize computer software (e.g., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) to complete tasks as assigned.
· Appropriately refer people to various resources (e.g. forms, professional staff, departments/offices on campus, etc.) and explain process/steps of certain pertaining to graduate or international admissions from students if necessary.
· Assist to organize, promote, and participate in events/activities, such as orientations, workshops, and career fairs
· Deliver documents to different departments/ offices/locations on campus.
· Perform general labor requiring minimal training and under the supervision of a full-time staff member(s).
· Work in a safe manner adhering to departmental guidelines and training.
· Dress appropriately for work/job requirements.
· Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Enrolled in SVSU classes as a degree-seeking student (excludes guest students)
· Fall and Winter: at least 6 credit hours each semester
· Spring / Summer: at least 6 credits total or be pre-registered for at least 6 credits for the upcoming Fall semester

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Departmental student employee supervisor and/or his/her designee

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: As assigned

· Work may be performed either outside or inside
· Work may require exposure to adverse conditions

SVSU Career Services currently has an open position for a Graduate Assistant.

As a Graduate Assistant (GA) for Career Services, you will play a key role in helping the Career Services staff in accomplishing their mission.

Responsibilities:
• Assist with increasing internships and experiential learning opportunities for students both locally, regionally, and nationally
• Become familiar with and utilize the online job database, Handshake to post and approve employer job postings
• Research companies (managed accounts and exploratory) to develop strategies for establishing relationships
• Work in conjunction with the internal voices committee to deliver student, alumni, and employer success stories via social media, video, web content, newsletters, and profile stories.
• Assist with data collection for semesterly follow up with students, alumni, and employers
• Assist with the planning and ex*****on of employment fairs
• Provide individual career counseling appointments to students in all majors
• Coordinate and conduct practice interviews with students in all majors
• Present in classrooms, residence halls, and student groups on various career-related topics
• Attend weekly staff meetings
• Other duties as assigned relevant to the Career Services office

Compensation
• $14 per hour, 24 hours per week
• The selected Graduate Assistant will receive a tuition waiver of six (6) credits per semester in any graduate program at SVSU for the Fall 2021 and Winter 2022 semesters.

Congratulations to Matt McDonald who will be graduating at 10am today with his Master of Social Work (MSW)! Matt is United States Navy veteran who served from 1998-2006 with multiple deployments and as a first responder to the 9/11 attacks and bombing of the USS COLE.

Matt's future plans include "providing service and empowerment to vulnerable and oppressed populations and helping the veteran community". We are deeply appreciative of your service and sacrifice, Matt. Congratulations on this significant milestone!
