A new chapter begins for OHIO Eastern graduate Lauren McFarland!

After earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in Spring 2026, Lauren passed the NCLEX-RN exam on her first attempt and is now a licensed Registered Nurse.

Lauren has accepted a position at WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital, where she will put her education, clinical experience, and passion for patient care into practice.

Please join us in celebrating Lauren's achievements and wishing her all the best as she begins her nursing career. We are excited to see the impact she will make in our region and beyond.

📍 WHERE ARE THEY NOW? | OHIO Eastern Alumni Series

This week’s alumni spotlight features David Neavin, Supervisor of Clinical Outcomes, Physical Therapist and APTA Certified Clinical Instructor with Orthopedic One in Delaware, Ohio.

David graduated cm laude from OHIO Eastern in 2013 with a degree in Exercise Physiology. Just two weeks after graduation, he began graduate school at Wheeling Jesuit University, earning his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2015.

When asked how his degree from OHIO Eastern helped shape where he is today, David shared:

“My journey and success thus far all started at OUE. Going there truly got me started off on the right foot and is still today the foundation of my education as well as my professional career.”

David credits his undergraduate experience at OHIO Eastern with preparing him not only for graduate school, but also for success throughout his career.

“I cannot emphasize enough how my undergraduate studies at OUE not only prepared me for grad school but also allowed me to excel beyond all others.”

After beginning his career in Wilmington, Ohio, David joined Orthopedic One in 2017 when the organization was still in its early years. Today, Orthopedic One is recognized as Ohio’s largest orthopedic physician group and one of the leading outpatient orthopedic providers in the nation. Over the past 10.5 years, David has advanced into leadership while continuing to provide patient care and mentor future physical therapists.

“I loved my time at OUE and I believe it is a great place to get a degree from. I am proud to say I went there.”

Thank you, David, for representing OHIO Eastern and making an impact in the field of physical therapy.

Join Captina Conservancy this Saturday, June 27, for a day of family-friendly fun while supporting conservation and environmental education in our region.

Be sure to visit the OHIO Eastern Rural Teacher Corps activities table, where interns Jae Chance, Ava Jewell, Mady Drosieko, and Trista Regis will be leading Watershed BINGO, a passport challenge, coloring activities, and prize giveaways for participants of all ages.

The talent at OHIO Eastern extends well beyond the classroom.

When she's not teaching communication studies, Dr. Sarah Mahan spends her time performing with the Sarah Hays Band, bringing live music to communities throughout the Ohio Valley and beyond.

Sarah and the band will be back on-stage this Tuesday, June 23, for a summer performance at Toe Tappin Tuesdays at Warwood park.

We're proud to celebrate the many passions our faculty pursue both on and off campus. 🎶

As Captina Conservancy prepares for its annual Duck Dash on June 27, OHIO Eastern Rural Teacher Corps interns Jae Chance, Ava Jewell, Mady Drosieko, and Trista Regis have been hard at work developing activities they will host during the event!

This year's activities table will feature Watershed BINGO, coloring activities, a passport challenge, and prizes for participants of all ages. The interns have spent the past several weeks creating hands-on experiences designed to help visitors learn about local watersheds while having fun.

Be sure to stop by and see them at Duck Dash while supporting Captina Conservancy and its important conservation and environmental education efforts throughout our region.

The 2026–2027 OHIO Rural Teacher Fellowship is now accepting applications through July 10, 2026, with decisions announced by the end of July.

This fellowship, offered by Ohio University Regional Higher Education in partnership with BB2C - Building Bridges to Careers supports educators across Appalachian Ohio who are driving meaningful change in their communities.

Since its pilot in 2021, the program has empowered teachers to create Community and Career Connected Learning projects that:
✔ Address real community challenges
✔ Connect students to local career pathways
✔ Bring hands-on, place-based learning into the classroom

🍎 Who should apply?
• Current PK–12 teachers
• Educators teaching in Appalachian Ohio or Fairfield County
