Charlotte Hawkins Brown, born on June 11, 1883 in Henderson, North Carolina, was educated in Massachusetts before returning to the South to teach African-American children. In 1902, she opened the Palmer Memorial Institute, named after a benefactor; it went on to become a famed 200-acre prep school offering black students rich course offerings. Brown was also a world-traveler and suffragist.

Through our Wage Gap Bake Sale, we were able to raise $127 to donate to the Malala Fund, an organization that supports girls’ education! Thank you to everyone who participated!

SAGE is hosting a three day Wage Gap Bake Sale, Tuesday Jan 22-Thursday Jan 24 from 10am-3pm in Jammin' Java. We will be selling baked goods at various prices to reflect the wage gap (cash only).

100% of our profits will go to the Malala Fund. The Malala Fund is an international non-profit organization that advocates for girl's education. We hope that our bake sale will bring awareness about girl's education worldwide and the wage gap in America.
