This is your LAST CHANCE to order official DNA envelopes for Kansas state livestock nominations! The deadline to order is tomorrow, June 5. Please keep in mind that June 5 is a Friday. Orders are filled next business day. So, if you wait and order during the day tomorrow, they will not get shipped until Monday, condensing the time for them to be delivered by the USPS.
All market animals, of any gender or breed, and commercial breeding females must be state-nominated to be eligible for the Kansas State Fair Grand Drive and/or KJLS. The deadline to submit nominations for hogs, sheep, meat goats, and commercial breeding heifers is June 15. This is a firm deadline. Nomination includes entering the animals in the online nomination system, under each exhibitor in the family, as well as postmarking a completed and signed DNA hair sample envelope for each nominated animal. Both steps must be completed by June 15 for nominations to be accepted. Returning the DNA envelopes via certified mail (or a method that provides a receipt as proof of mailing and tracking) is HIGHLY encouraged. Refer to each show’s respective rules for additional eligibility requirements. The website for each show is provided below.
If you only ordered DNA envelopes the first time you logged into the system, make sure to return to the link to submit your actual animals, including tag numbers, breeds, ear notches, full scrapie tag numbers, etc., before returning your signed DNA envelopes. We cannot accept and process DNA envelopes unless a corresponding tag number has been submitted in the online system.
Everyone is encouraged to use the checklists, as well as the other nomination resources provided, including the Rookie Guide and video, to make sure their nominations are complete. All of the resources are posted on the Nomination Information page of the youth livestock program website.
