To wrap up Occupational Therapy Month, we caught up with another alumna in the Occupational Therapy field, Dr. Lindsey Envall ’14. Lindsey is originally from Duluth, MN and following graduation from Saint Ben’s, she pursued her Doctorate in Occupational Therapy at Drake University in Des Moines, IA. Lindsey completed her OT training then returned north and is currently working at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth as a practicing Pediatric Occupational Therapist. “The liberal arts degree from CSB/SJU provides a diverse range of courses and areas to explore to help students learn and/or develop an area where they feel they excel. Specifically for occupational therapy, I was able to take courses that were required for graduate school, as well as develop time management skills because I was not only a student, but also an RA, and a student-athlete.” She also shared, “My favorite course, as well as one of my more challenging ones at CSB/SJU, was probably human anatomy. However, my professor, Mani [Campos], was so engaging and knowledgeable. He always took the time to help students learn and succeed and made class fun!” Lindsey described her favorite memories from CSB/SJU were running on the trails near Lake Sagatagan (especially in the fall!) and the Christmas season, saying, “Campus during Christmas was absolutely magical!”

Taylor also shared a few of her favorite memories from her time in Saint Joe, “It was important to me that I was able to pursue my academic and career goals while not giving up my passion for dance. As a member of the Bennie Dance Team, I’ll always cherish performing at Johnnie football games and nationals with my friends!”

With the Easter Holiday upon us, it is a good time to think about... rest days. Rest days are important for the body to repair, rebuild, and strengthen muscle tissue. Incorporating a periodic rest day into your routine - either completely off or engage in a low-intensity activity - can help maintain a better balance between home, work, and fitness goals! Enjoy break and Happy Easter✝!!

Our EXHS student spotlight this week is Lauren Boyer ’23. Lauren grew up in nearby Richmond, Minnesota, and chose College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University for its close-to-home location and amazing alumni and networking community. Her appreciation for staying physically active and enjoyment for helping others reach their potential through exercise steered her toward the Exercise and Health Science major. “I love how outgoing and kind all of the professors are. I can truly tell that they have a passion for what they are doing and that they care about all of us students and want us to succeed,” said Boyer. “My favorite class so far has been EXHS 302 – Clinical Healthcare, it’s so relevant for anyone who wants to go into the sports and exercise science field!” Outside of her coursework, Lauren keeps busy with intramural sports and participating in the Allied Health Club. She is also working on starting a Girls on the Run Club – an afterschool activity club for elementary and middle school aged children! Lauren is planning to take a year off after she graduates and ultimately pursue her doctorate in physical therapy. To future CSB/SJU students, Lauren says, “if you have a passion for fitness and the healthcare field, then the Exercise and Health Science is the way to go. You have endless opportunities for what you could do with your degree in the future!”
