St. Kate's Community Work & Learning The Center for Community Work and Learning (CWL) St. Kate's students are actively involved in the Twin Cities community. Kate's education.

Whether it's working with children to develop reading skills as part of the America Reads program, engaging in the community through Service-Learning course as well as AMP, advocating for necessary changes through Civic Engagement, or having an off-campus job through the Community Leadership Program, community involvement is a cornerstone of a St. The Center for Community Work and Learning:

⏱️ After three years of work with our office, she’s taken an exciting opportunity as one of our Community Leaders with the Ann Bancroft Foundation before concluding her studies at St. Kate’s in December!

America Reads is a paid tutoring program dedicated to ensuring all young people are academically prepared. As tutors in this program, St. Kate’s students work at multiple locations in the community to foster joy and growth in young learners while developing their own leadership skills.

Calling all in the St. Kate's community! Students, staff, faculty, and alumni are invited to participate in a research study on how food reflects identity, culture and belonging at St. Kate's.

Veronique Kolibe-Gnamikou, Danae Heffron, and Dr. Anaya Mitra are conducting this study as part of the Summer Scholars program. Their project, titled the St. Catherine University Cookbook Project, invites members of the St. Kate’s community to share meaningful recipes and the stories behind them. More information on the project can be found via the QR code in this post.

On Thursday of last week, research teams gathered in the Rauenhorst Ballroom for the 2026 Summer Scholars program kickoff and orientation session, which marks the beginning of an intensive summer of interdisciplinary research. This year’s cohort includes a record number of participants: 23 projects, 45 undergraduate students, and 25 faculty mentors!

As of this year, we are also excited to welcome Dr. Steve Elmer as the new faculty director of Summer Scholars. Dr. Elmer brings extensive experience to the position and has plans to support and improve the Summer Scholars experience for both undergraduate students and faculty mentors. We look forward to another great year of Collaborative Research at St. Kate’s!

Please join us as we celebrate the Feast of Saint Joseph and the work of St. Catherine University founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet!

This year's event will take place on Monday, March 23, with prayer service at 11:45am in the Chapel followed by an opportunity for community engagement through service projects from 12-2pm. We’ll also have refreshments, including halal and kosher options, and special dog visitors from North Star Therapy Animals. ASL interpretation will be provided during the prayer service.

Tutors foster joy and growth in young learners while developing their own leadership skills.
