As a new school year begins, here are 3 things you should know about the incredible impact the McKeown School of Education has had on our community:

🧡147 grads who completed their 2026 educator license program at Salem State University were honored this past spring at the 12th annual Sheila P. Kearney ’54, ’67G Educators Pinning Ceremony.

🧡With more than 24,000 alumni, the McKeown School of Education has a long history of preparing educators who make a difference.

Last year, supported by a $480,000 grant from the Mellon Foundation, Salem State University launched the Humanities Brigade with the question: What does it look like when students apply the humanities to real-world challenges?

One year later, the university’s inaugural Humanities Brigade cohort has provided an answer.

The only one of it's kind in the country, this program was designed by Professor Elizabeth Duclos-Orsello and was created to help students see the humanities as both a practical academic pathway and a powerful set of tools for life, work and community.

Don't forget - we're still on the hunt for nominees for the Athletic Hall of Fame!

This year's deadline is October 31.

Nominees may include individuals, teams, coaches or contributors. We're pleased to share a newly-established category: Legends.

This award can be given to a team or individual that completed their athletic eligibility or career at least 20 or more years prior to the current nomination year. It is specifically designed to recognize candidates whose credentials might be difficult to measure against modern-day athletes, adjusting for the different statistical standards, rules, and eras in which they competed.

Know someone worthy of consideration? Nominate them today!
