ShoreRivers presents the 11th Annual Wild & Scenic VIRTUAL Film Festival on Friday, November 20, at 7 PM. On-Demand access available from November 21-25.

This year ShoreRivers will be airing a special selection of diverse, award-winning films that will excite, captivate, and inspire. Not only that, some of the films will be introduced by their very own filmmakers!

The proceeds of this event will directly benefit the water quality in the Chester, Sassafras, Miles, Wye, and Choptank River watersheds. ShoreRivers’ pragmatic approach to conservation addresses the unique characteristics and challenges we face living and working in such a stunning and vulnerable landscape.

Did you know that every nine minutes the weight of a blue whale (300,000 pounds) in plastic makes its way into our ocean? To call attention to this, the Monterey Bay Aquarium built a life-sized replica of a blue whale made of single-use, locally sourced plastic trash. Learn more about the largest sculpture of its kind ever built by registering for our event and watching 'Every Nine Minutes', a short film about plastic pollution.

You've seen bee hives in a rural setting, but did you know that in East Detroit there are urban beekeepers? Register for our event to watch 'Detroit Hives' which explores the importance of bringing diversity to beekeeping and rebuilding inner-city communities one hive at a time.

This is a fantastic opportunity to watch award-winning conservation films for FREE as well as learn more about ShoreRivers' critical work to protect and restore our beautiful rivers.

So tell your friends, family, and coworkers to register now! We promise a memorable evening full of laughter and excitement!

Winter 2021 Course Announcement!

Winter 2021 Course Registration will begin on October 16, 2020 and end on January 3, 2021.

If you are looking for an exciting remote class to enroll in over the winter, Communicating Climate Change (ENVR 150) is the perfect option for you!
In this course, students will study public opinion and behavior surrounding climate change, and students will practice different communication strategies to better understand how climate change is connected to our lives. Why don’t we talk about climate change? We need to learn how to do that, and to do that well. Climate change is the defining issue of our time. It impacts virtually every discipline and social issue we care about and is the product of our economies, cultures, and politics. But while the majority of Americans worry about climate change, most seldom talk about climate change with others. This class challenges students to evaluate how people communicate climate change through different contexts and genres: from communicating climate change through scientific graphs to science fiction, from direct action civil disobedience to conspiracy theories. Meets General education IIIB or IIIC; this is a social science /humanities general education course. It is NOT a natural science gen ed (that's ENVR 102).
