🎓 Where Are They Now?

Today, we're featuring Austin Greenlee ('25)!

Austin graduated from Salisbury University with a B.S. in Mathematics with a concentration in Actuarial Science, a B.A. in Spanish, and minors in Statistics and Finance.

After graduation, Austin joined Aon’s Early Careers program and is now a Retirement Actuarial Associate in Baltimore. In his role, he helps companies understand and manage retirement plans, supporting pension and 401(k) projects through data analysis, calculations, reporting, and communicating technical results in practical terms.

Austin credits his coursework, projects, exam preparation, and guidance from SU professors, advisors, and Career Services with helping him connect his academic experiences to the professional skills employers value.

He also continues to give back by mentoring through Aon’s Career Discovery Program and helping students interested in actuarial careers navigate exams, interviews, networking, and life after graduation.

We're proud to see Austin staying connected to Salisbury while beginning an exciting career in actuarial science!

🎓Where Are Our Alumni Now?
We are back, and this week we're featuring Lisa McKinnon ('06)!

Lisa has dedicated her career to mathematics education and helping students and educators reach their full potential. After graduating from Salisbury University with degrees in Mathematics and Communications and minors in Statistics and History, she later returned to SU to earn her Master of Science in Mathematics Education (MSME).

Lisa began her career as a mathematics teacher and today serves as the Instructional Supervisor of Secondary Mathematics for Wicomico County Public Schools. Throughout her career, she has remained committed to creating meaningful learning experiences for students while supporting teachers in strengthening mathematics instruction. Her dedication was recognized when she was named Teacher of the Year for the 2018–2019 school year! 👏🏼

We're proud to see Lisa continuing to make an impact on students and educators in our local community!

🎓Where Are They Now?

This week, we're featuring Ashlyn Orr ('25)!

After earning her B.S. in Mathematics with a concentration in Statistics and minors in Data Science and Actuarial Science, Ashlyn joined the Richard A. Henson Research Institute at TidalHealth as a full-time Data Scientist. During her undergraduate studies, she completed an internship at the Institute, where she applied statistical analysis and data management to clinical research and presented her work at TidalHealth's 3rd Annual Research Symposium.

Today, Ashlyn develops databases, performs statistical analyses, contributes to medical research studies, and recently became a co-author on her first publication. While working full-time, she is also pursuing a Master of Science in Data Science at Eastern University and is expected to graduate in July 2026.

We're proud to see Ashlyn applying mathematics and statistics to improve healthcare through data-driven research. Congratulations on all you've accomplished. We can't wait to see what's next!👏🏼

🎓Where Are Our Alumni Now?

This week, we're featuring Daniel Fein ('15)!

After graduating from Salisbury University with a degree in Mathematics and a concentration in Secondary Education, Dan began his career as a high school mathematics teacher in Queen Anne’s County. He later returned to school, earning a Master of Science in Mathematics and Statistics from Georgetown University in 2019.

Today, Dan serves as a Principal Data Scientist at ReefPoint Group, where he supports federal government initiatives through data engineering, analytics, machine learning, and enterprise data strategy. He also helped establish ReefPoint's Data Science Community of Practice, fostering collaboration and professional growth among data professionals.

We're proud to see the impact our alumni are making and grateful to Dan for sharing his story!👏🏼

Congratulations to Stephen Barr who successfully presented his Departmental Honors thesis, "Minimum Quantum Degrees with Maya Diagrams in a Family of Odd Orthogonal Partial Flag Varieties" to students and faculty on May 12th. Great work Stephen!🎉

After our Pi Mu Epsilon initiation ceremony this month, mathematical science faculty and students gathered to celebrate with a BBQ picnic🍔🌭 It was a great afternoon recognizing our newest members while enjoying good food, conversation, and community together!

The Department of Mathematical Sciences hosted the Pi Mu Epsilon SU Chapter (Maryland Zeta Chapter) Initiation Ceremony on May 2, 2026.

Pi Mu Epsilon is a non-secret honor society where the purpose is the promotion of scholarly activity in mathematics among students in academic institutions and among the staffs of qualified non-academic institutions. To be eligible to join Pi Mu Epsilon, students must have completed a series of math coursework and maintain high general and major GPA.

Congratulations to Salisbury University alumna and current MSME student Justine Graham on receiving the Outstanding Mentor Award at the 2026 Regional Professional Development School Celebration held at Salisbury University!

Justine, a 2023 SU graduate and second-year mathematics teacher at Pocomoke High School, was recognized for her dedication and commitment to supporting student interns as they develop their classroom practice.

Pictured from left to right are Justine Graham, mentee Tara Palmatary, and Dean Laurie Henry. Tara, who graduates this May, has accepted a position as a high school mathematics teacher at Easton High School.
