💥 ArtsForce Asks: Nicole Lavley

Summer ArtsForce Intern, Zoe Madrid, recently interviewed her former teacher, Nicole Lavley (Art Teaching BFA ’17, MAT-FA '20) about her experience as a student, becoming a teacher, taking a break from the profession, and now working as a professional nail technician and artist.

Nicole suggests asking more questions and diving deeper into connecting with what you want to create more than anything. Don’t let your preconceived notions of what a successful artist is stop you from finding your practice and how you want your art to be.

“There are so many ways to create, and you should really curate it. That’s your biggest role. The biggest work of art that you’ll ever create as an artist is your practice and how you do it.”

ArtsForce Takeaways:
🌟 There are so many ways to be an artist; you can do it your way.
🌟 Take everything you can as a learning experience; everything should be a lesson.
🌟 Community and putting yourself out there is so important; we can’t do it alone!
🌟 Figure out what is and isn’t for you: stand by what you feel.
🌟 You don’t have to follow a specific path or do things just because that’s what you think you’re supposed to do; listen to yourself and don’t be afraid to try new things.
