“This historical repertory is a treat for any dancer who has the honor of learning it.”
This is what University of Utah School of Dance student Isabella DeCandido has to say about learning José Limón’s “Psalm,” which she will be performing in the upcoming concert “Unbound,” as well as in the Limón Dance Company concert hosted by UtahPresents on September 24th.

From performing alongside the Company, to attending masterclasses, to getting the chance to learn vital modern dance repertory, “Psalm” provides students the chance to embody the humanist values of Limón himself.

* Tori Duhaime (Modern Dance BFA ’16) has started her MFA in Screendance at University of Wisconsin-Madison in their inaugural MFA program cohort. Tori Duhaime

* Anne Gutcher (Ballet BFA ‘18) recently retired from being a Soloist at Ballet Theatre of Maryland and is now the Ballet Director at Level Dance Project. Anne Gutcher

* Sydney Sorenson (Modern Dance BFA ‘13) is Dance Coordinator and Associate Professor of Dance tenured at Allan Hancock College in California and is currently on sabbatical in Santa Fe studying somatics. Sydney T Sorenson, MFA

The School of Dance is pleased to announce that alum Tom Welsh has been selected for the Distinguished Alumni Arts Educator Award for his significant contributions in arts education. Visit the link in our bio to learn more about Tom’s amazing work in dance science!

Welsh will be given the award at the CFA Assembly, which will take place on Wednesday, September 23 from 10:45am to 12:15pm in Kingsbury Hall. The assembly will also celebrate the creative works and research of College of Fine Arts students and faculty.

* Natalie Dellutri (Ballet BFA ‘19, Psychology BS ‘19) has been promoted to Milwaukee Ballet School & Academy’s School Operations Manager.

* Brooklyn Draper (Modern MFA ‘19) has joined University of Montana as Associate Professor of Dance/Associate School Director.

* Huiwang Zhang (Modern MFA ‘17) has been appointed Assistant Professor of Dance in the Department of Drama and Dance at Hofstra University.

Coming soon… Celebrate Hispanic//Latinx Heritage Month with UNBOUND, the School of Dance’s first concert of the year!

Audiences will experience an excerpt from Psalm by the great Mexican American dancer and choreographer José Limón, staged by Natalie Desch. The School of Dance is also honored to invite Sandra Rivera, choreographer, writer, educator, and one of Ballet Hispánico’s founding members as a guest choreographer and lecturer. To round out the program, faculty members Daniel Clifton, Pamela Handman and Timothy Lynch present contemporary and neo-classical dances that further showcase the talent and versatility of School of Dance students. 

And remember, U students get in free via University of Utah - Arts Pass!
