Did you catch our very own Rebekah Cummings in The New York Times?

Rebekah was among dozens of librarians who were interviewed during the A.L.A. conference this past summer in Chicago.

Out of the numerous questions that these incredible librarians were asked to answer, Rebekah was asked: “What do you wish people knew about the everyday running of your library?”

She responded: "I wish they knew that libraries in our communities are not just nice to have. They are essential services. Nothing shows more privilege than when people say, Can’t people just buy books?"

We’re so thankful for the librarians who stand up for our libraries and remind us how valuable it is, especially in today’s world, to keep learning, keep reading and have a welcoming space where we can come together as a community.

You can read the rest of the New York Times article here: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2026/10/01/books/state-of-libraries-librarians.html
