Roadrunner Cadets returned to the Engagement Skills Trainer (EST) for their second training session, continuing to sharpen their marksmanship fundamentals.

Cadets practiced firing positions and worked through simulated engagements under the guidance of their instructors. Each repetition provided an opportunity to apply feedback, refine their technique, and build consistency in a controlled training environment.

Training builds proficiency. Repetition builds confidence. The work continues.

Know where you are. Understand where you need to go. 🧭

Roadrunner Cadets focused on land navigation during Leadership Lab, developing the map-reading and navigation fundamentals required for confident movement in the field.

Land navigation demands attention to detail, patience, and sound decision-making. Cadets practiced interpreting terrain, using available information, and making deliberate decisions to navigate from one point to the next.

For our Cadets, land navigation is more than an individual skill. It builds the confidence and competence required to lead others, make decisions under pressure, and guide a team toward the objective.

Readiness is built through consistent work. 💪

Roadrunner MSI through MSIII Cadets completed an Army Fitness Test (AFT), using the assessment to measure their current level of physical readiness and identify areas for continued improvement.

The AFT is more than an assessment. It provides Cadets with a baseline to evaluate their performance, set realistic goals, and focus their training moving forward. Consistent preparation, recovery, and individual responsibility remain essential to building and maintaining readiness.

The Roadrunner Battalion continues to emphasize physical readiness and disciplined preparation throughout Cadet development.

Excellence doesn’t stop when training ends. This summer, Roadrunner Cadets continued setting the standard both in uniform and beyond it. 🇺🇸

We would like to recognize Cadet Le, who, while at Fort Knox, completed the final requirements for his Bachelor’s Degree in Cybersecurity, graduating Summa Cum Laude while continuing his coursework throughout camp.

His hard work and academic achievement also led to his selection for the Texas Armed Services Scholarship, following his appointment by Texas State Representative Jon Rosenthal. The scholarship recognizes Texans pursuing higher education while preparing for future service as military officers.

These accomplishments reflect the commitment Roadrunner Cadets make not only to developing themselves as Army leaders, but also to pursuing excellence academically, professionally, and in service to others.

Congratulations to CDT Le on his achievements and for continuing to represent the Roadrunner Battalion at the highest level.

The work continues.

The Roadrunner Battalion proudly congratulates Master Sergeant Daniel Silva on his recent promotion from Sergeant First Class to Master Sergeant.

As a member of our cadre, MSG Silva plays an important role in training, mentoring, and developing the next generation of Army officers. His promotion reflects another milestone in his Army career and gives the Roadrunner Battalion an opportunity to celebrate alongside one of our own.

Congratulations, MSG Silva, on this achievement and thank you for your continued service to our Cadets and the Roadrunner Battalion! 👏🇺🇸

One step closer to contracting. 📊💪

Roadrunner Cadets working toward contracting completed an Army Fitness Test (AFT), demonstrating their physical readiness and meeting an important requirement in the contracting process.

The AFT challenged Cadets across the Army’s physical fitness standards while reinforcing the discipline, preparation, and individual accountability expected of future Army officers. For these Cadets, every event represented more than a score. It was another step toward earning the opportunity to contract and continue their development in Army ROTC.

With the test complete, Cadets can build on their results, continue improving their physical readiness, and focus on the remaining requirements ahead. 💪🏃

Another requirement down. Another step forward. ✅

Roadrunner Cadets took marksmanship training into the simulator at Fort Sam Houston. 🎯🪖

During Engagement Skills Trainer (EST) training, Cadets worked through simulated engagement scenarios designed to reinforce marksmanship fundamentals, safe weapons handling, and disciplined ex*****on. The controlled environment provided immediate feedback, allowing Cadets to identify errors, make adjustments, and improve through repetition.

Each scenario challenged Cadets to maintain focus and composure while applying the fundamentals required for accurate and responsible weapons employment. The goal was simple: build consistent habits that will carry forward into future marksmanship training.

Training at Fort Sam Houston provided another opportunity for the Roadrunner Battalion to build confidence and proficiency while maintaining the safety and discipline expected of future Army officers.

Repetition builds consistency. Consistency drives performance. ✅📈

This summer, Roadrunner Cadets took their professional development far beyond the classroom, gaining experience across defense, technology, cybersecurity, aviation, and military law. 🇺🇸

CDT Mayo interned with Air Combat Command, gaining experience with emerging technologies and their potential applications in support of Air Force operations.

CDT Le joined Cloudflare, gaining experience at the intersection of emerging technology, cybersecurity, and secure technology solutions for the federal environment.

CDT Boyles completed a Judge Advocate General (JAG) internship supporting a Cavalry unit at Fort Hood, gaining firsthand exposure to military law and the legal responsibilities that support commanders, Soldiers, and Army operations.

Although their experiences were very different, each challenged our Cadets to apply their knowledge in new environments, work alongside professionals in their respective fields, and develop skills they can carry forward as future Army officers.

The Army needs leaders who can think critically, adapt, and operate across disciplines. Opportunities like these give our Cadets valuable experience beyond traditional ROTC training and help prepare them for the responsibilities ahead.

We are proud of CDT Mayo, CDT Le, and CDT Boyles for representing the Roadrunner Battalion and continuing to raise the standard wherever they serve.

🇺🇸 Roadrunner Battalion at the 2026 Command Reception 🇺🇸

UTSA Army ROTC was proud to represent the Roadrunner Battalion at the 2026 Command Reception hosted by the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce at Stable Hall.

In Military City USA, relationships between our military, universities, businesses, and community leaders matter. The Command Reception provided our Cadets an outstanding opportunity to engage with military command teams and leaders from across the San Antonio community while seeing firsthand the importance of building partnerships beyond the formation.

Representing UTSA Army ROTC were Professor of Military Science LTC Gilberto Malave; Assistant Professors of Military Science CPT Monica Santoyo and CPT Analyn Torres; Cadet Battalion Commander Kathleen Arvizu; Cadet Battalion Command Sergeant Major Julius Calhun; Cadet Battalion Executive Officer Cheikhouna Nounez; Cadet Battalion S3 Sean Edmonson; CDT Johan Villamil; and CDT Sergio Jimenez.

We were also glad to spend time with our sister ROTC program and fellow military leaders from across San Antonio, including Saint Mary’s University Army ROTC Professor of Military Science LTC James Nance, 5th Recruiting Brigade Commander COL Bennett, and UTSA Air Force ROTC Detachment Commander COL Parsons. These relationships strengthen the connections among our ROTC programs, recruiting partners, sister services, and the greater San Antonio military community.

For our Cadets, opportunities like this are an important part of developing future Army officers. Leadership is not only built in the classroom, during PT, or in the field. It is also developed through professional engagement, relationship building, and understanding how the Army works alongside our sister services and the communities we serve.

Thank you to the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and the San Antonio community for continuing to support our service members and future military leaders.

This summer, 32 Roadrunner Cadets took the next step in their development as future Army officers at Cadet Summer Training (CST) at Fort Knox, Kentucky. 🇺🇸

Training alongside Army ROTC Cadets from across the country, our Roadrunners were challenged physically, mentally, and tactically in an environment designed to test their leadership and prepare them for greater responsibilities within the Battalion and as future Army officers.

Throughout CST, they were placed in situations that required them to lead their peers, make decisions under pressure, adapt when conditions changed, work as part of a team, and continue performing through adversity.

Just as important as their successes were the opportunities to learn. CST gave our Cadets the chance to identify their strengths, recognize areas for improvement, learn from their mistakes, and gain experience outside the familiar environment of the Roadrunner Battalion.

Our 32 Cadets now bring those lessons and experiences back to the formation as they continue their development and help prepare the next generation of Roadrunners.

We are proud of every Cadet who represented the Roadrunner Battalion at Fort Knox this summer.

32 MS3 Roadrunners. One Battalion. A summer of leadership and growth.

The standard continues to rise.
