Meet our community partner Culturingua 🤩

Culturingua is a community & economic development organization whose mission is to preserve, promote, and enhance the cultural character in and around San Antonio’s Silk Road Cultural Heritage District. They pair immigrant entrepreneurship, cultural placemaking, and public-sector partnership to expand belonging, business growth, and long-term community wealth. 

Join us in our Silk Road Leadership and Entrepreneurship in the Arts Program:
Build the leadership and entrepreneurial skills to grow your creative career.
Presented in partnership with Culturingua, the Silk Road Cultural Heritage District, and the National Association for Latino Community Asset Builders

This training program is designed for young artists ages 18–24 who want to strengthen their leadership skills, develop an entrepreneurial mindset, and learn how to turn their creative work into sustainable opportunities. Participants will have the opportunity to pitch their artistic or business idea, compete for a prize, and be selected to showcase their art or performance at the 2027 Silk Road District Festival or Kinected Art Gallery. The program is open to artists working in or studying any creative discipline, including visual, performing, literary, and culinary arts.

Tuition – Free, Advance registration required.

What You’ll Gain:

Don’t miss this week’s opening of “Antithesis in Contemporary Collage” happening in our Main Art Gallery this Thursday, September 3, 10 am - 1 pm.

The exhibition will be on view through October 10 with gallery hours of Thursday - Saturday, 10 am - 2 pm.

Gallery will be closed Saturday 9/5 for Labor Day weekend.

Get to know The Foreign Arm, our Community Performing Arts instructors for our Songwriting 101 class for ages 15-20! 🤩

The Foreign Arm are a Neo Soul outfit from San Antonio, Texas. Powered by a collective of fierce musicians and vocalists, luscious rhythms and sonorous harmonies that grab you by the heart and don’t let go until long after the last tone sounds. 
Founded by singer-songwriter/guitarist Nick Blevins and San Antonio Poet Laureate Emeritus Andrea “Vocab” Sanderson, and percussionist Zach Jewell the band played their debut show at the BiblioTech, the first and only all-digital library in the country over a decade ago. As they gained momentum, they have played at increasingly unique locales and events, ranging from music festivals at majestic temples, to benefits that give back to, inauguration events at City Hall.

 Songwriting 101 is seven-week songwriting course designed to show you the basics of song composition, where you will create a song and get it demo- and performance-ready. The journey concludes with a live showcase presented by you and your classmates on October 25 at the Josephine Theater Cabaret.

ABODE is honored to be a sponsor for this immersive theatrical experience coming to San Antonio in October.

In Honor: We Hold the Line is an immersive, multimedia theater experience presented by Grief Dialogues. Directed by Donna Provencher, it highlights the courage, grief, and sacrifices of military veterans and their families through poetry, music, sculpture, and shared storytelling.

The local production of this moving experience is coming to the Radius Center (106 Auditorium Cir #120, San Antonio, TX).

We’re welcoming in the Fall 2026 semester with the opening of “Exquisite Entropy: Photographs by Trish Simonite, 1972 - 2025” this Friday, August 28th, from 6 - 8 pm in our Russell Hill Rogers Galleries.

We are proud to announce our Inaugural UTSA Arts Ensemble-In-Residence Turnip Ensemble Theater ! 🤩
 
Turnip Ensemble Theater is a nonprofit company dedicated to fostering physical and devised theater in San Antonio and South Texas. Turnip provides access to diverse methodologies and educational opportunities for performers, theater makers, and non-actors, emphasizing community engagement, accessibility, and innovative storytelling. Since its founding in 2022, Turnip has presented original productions and workshops that cultivate ensemble-based theater, engaging audiences and artists alike in experimental and collaborative storytelling. Turnip is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
 
Join us for a Free Public Devising Workshop on Sunday, September 13, 2026, from 2–4 p.m. at the McNutt Co-Lab at UT San Antonio Southwest Campus. This interactive workshop is open to the public and designed for participants of all experience levels to explore Turnip’s collaborative theater-making process.
 
In November, Turnip will also present a staged reading of “Inheritance,” an original work-in-progress, with performances on Sunday, November 15 at 2 p.m. and Monday, November 16 at 7:00 p.m., also at the McNutt Co-Lab at UT San Antonio Southwest Campus.

Please join us Thursday for the first ever event in our Art + Ecology series!
Philosopher Andrew Brei will be helping us learn about and unpack the writings of conservationist Aldo Leopold while staying rooted in close observation of the natural world. Then he and artist Mark Menjívar will invite attendees into a new writing project that will span the year. Doors open at 6pm. Talk to start at 6:30pm. Light snacks and drinks provided. Andrew Brei is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at St. Mary’s University. He is the Director of the St. Mary’s Center for Professional Ethics and is also the Charles H. Miller Chair in Human Dignity. He teaches a variety of courses––from introductory courses in philosophy and ethics to upper-level courses in environmental philosophy, medical ethics, and the philosophy of food––all of which aim to help students gain a better understanding of themselves, of human nature, and of our place in the world. His research has involved questions about moral motivation, the ethics of bullfighting, and ways of infusing the Liberal Arts in an engineering program. Most recently, Andrew has been focusing on the philosophy of travel and is currently thinking and writing about pilgrimage as a category of travel, exploring the ways in which it fosters community, involves meaning, and deepens belonging.
